Without going into too much detail i had shoulder surgery almost 2 years ago performed by a "leading" shoulder specialist in the region. As this was during Covid it was done privately.

Things did not go well and there is an ongoing compliant against the Surgeon and private hospital.

I have now been offered a "review and second opinion" by an Orthopaedic Shoulder surgeon of my choice (paid for by the private hospital)

How do i go about identifying who is the best " UK Shoulder Surgeon" ?

There are a number in my region (Yorkshire) but many appear to have worked with / alongside the surgeon who performed the original surgery and i want /
need this second opinion to be truly independent and accept i need to go outside my local area ?

Advice / recommendations welcomed

The Birmingham Knee and Shoulder Clinic are good, i have seen both Duncan Learmonth and Marcus Green. Not sure how they stack up in the "best in the country" rating but they are good. Duncan in particular is well known in the area (and maybe outside it) amongst doctors, physios, chiropractors etc as being a reference point in the field

If it was me, I'd go and see Prof Len Funk in Manchester.

Sorry to resurrect this long dead thread, but who was the surgeon in Yorkshire who you didn't have a good experience with?

While the topic is at the top of the page. I'll add Dr. Tim to the list if people are still looking;

He has retired now so not sure it matters.
He was based in W Yorks.
The hospital denied liability but eventually paid out the maximum allowed under there complaints procedure

The promised "full and thorough" internal investigation by the hospital director was non existent
