Is China The Next Big Problem?
Discussion
Seems that China has been quietly gaining influence in various parts of the world for decades. Both commercially and militarily.
Russia has been the bogeyman for as long as I've been alive but since the Bear has been tested and found to be more like a mouse, perhaps we should be concerned about more credible foes.
Just saw this headline today but there's a lot of info out there https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/germany-s-for...

The West is worried that China dominates the World, they think that's their privilege?
The big picture is that we are outnumbered and economically out-performed by China.
If it wasn't China being seen as the problem, it would be the Islamic countries collectively?
Yet they depend on the West to continue doing business with them. The big picture is that we are outnumbered and economically out-performed by China.

The West got bitten by being over dependent on Russia and we saw problems with chip supply yet Western companies seem to continue to flock to China manufacture cheaply for them.
Politicians goo on about green agender and making us all cycle and walk yet it is OK to ship stuff across the world

Ultimately, it wasn't China, or the US and European governments that closed down our manufacturing.
It was consumers: who wanted access to cheaper products. It was the workers: who won't do 16 hours a day in unsafe conditions for £3 an hour. It was taxpayers and voters: who couldn't stomach the huge cost.
The west's Governments could have protected their industrial base, by heavily subsidising it, or erecting huge barriers against free trade (from china)
But wait: the west also got rich by promoting free trade, and the WTO / USA basically forced countries (bar N Korea) to get on board.
So it would be contrary for us, the west etc to want all the "good bits" of free trade, but not have the "bad bits".
Just as China want the "good bits" of trade with the west, but not the "bad bits" (moral decline, watering down their culture, pesky questions about personal freedom and rule of law).
It's also worth noting that every time China does a military drill, it's either preceded by, or followed by the USA doing one.
So again, the west is "worried" about china exerting military influence, whilst perfectly content with the west (ie the USA) exerting huge military influence.
It all seems a bit hypocritical. The thread could easily be based in China saying "are the West the next big problem?" (If they were allowed to use the web uncensored of course)

it's ok when we do it. It's just that when other (obviously bad) people do the same thing, it's clearly unacceptable.... Cobracc said:
The biggest threat to the UK right now is the Tory party.
The biggest threat to the country right now are those who think the labour party will be any better for the country as a whole. than the useless tories have been. And dont even think of the liberals, who falsely use the word `democrat's' in their title. They proved beyond doubt in 2016, that they dont believe in democracy, when democracy does not give the results `they' wanted.
What is needed is a party, which supports those who have the cheek and audacity to believe that people should work for the kind life they want, rather than the government just handing them whatever they want on a plate, just because they happen to exist .

Anyone expecting otherwise needs to give their head a wobble.
The Liberal Democrats wont be the next lot, so we can safely ignore their disdain for democracy.

The Taiwanese should be worried. The Americans are prepared to fight to the last Taiwanese person too.
I'm curious - do people seriously think that China will invade Taiwan? The only people who seem to think so are media outlets in countries who have a recent history of invasions themselves.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
