Right - These are the Rules Criteria

For those times when I want to be clean-shaven & cannot be bothered to take my Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 Skin Protection Advanced Men's Razor in to the shower

Budget - Ideally less than £50. Preferably a foil & blades type

Features - Li-Ion battery, don't need any attachments as have hair clippers to trim stubble& hair.

This is what I am currently gravitating towards . . . I have to say I am slightly suspicious of the price!

Any recommendations peeps ?

Do you use the trimmers for stubble then use this device?

Any head hair or stubble is dealt with by my hair clippers either with or without attachments & that works perfectly.

This shaver will be as an alternative when I cannot be bothered to wet shave.

I've been using a Phillips OneBlade for about five years now for those occasions I can't be bothered to wet shave which, these days, is most of the time.

I think it's great. Does the job well, can be used wet or dry and can put stubble/clipper attachments on too. Quite small so great for travel and blades need replacing far less frequently than recommended on the packet I find (depends on usage I guess)

Linky

I have the pro (which I bought in France for far cheaper than this while on holiday, but as I said was 5 years ago) but I'm sure the 30 quid regular one would do a great job.

Been through many foil type razors like your suggestion (including high end Braun foil and Phillips rotary type) and none have been as good.

Edited to fix the link.

Yeah I have a boggo OneBlade about 4 years old & hardly use it as I found it takes forever to use - is it just me or does it take quite a while to shave with it?

eta - it has the digital display so must be the Pro that I have I guess.

I can't say I've found that to be honest. Certainly no longer than a foil type which I've found to be hit and miss.

I don't think it's as good for clipping as a dedicated clipper (which I also have for very limited hair and the lockdown beard I've clung on to) but for shaving around my neck and trimming little bits here and there I've had no issues.

Buy Philips. Or buy cheap, buy twice, like I did.

Panasonic shavers are great, miles ahead of Braun, Phillips, et al.

With a £50 budget, I'd go mad and chip in another £8 for this.

I was recommended this off this site.

Far superior shave to the Phillips it replaced, great battery and cheap as chips.

So - Today I took possession of the one I originally intended to purchase & linked above & just used it on some 2 day old stubble & to be honest for £29 it seems like an absolute steal as I am now sporting a surprisingly smooth face.

Admittedly performance will no doubt fade as the blades lose their edge but let's see. The motor is surprisingly strong.

Phillips one blade is great, I’ve never been able to dry shave but with this I can, I shave one every 3 days or so. It’s decent

I use a Braun Series 3 and it's the best electric shaver I've had so far.

That was the other shaver I was considering.

Interestingly buying a spare foil & blades costs more than the shaver itself (at current pricing) biggrin

I’m reading this with interest. As a head and face shaver I’m always on the lookout for a workable lazy option. Especially when travelling.

Rotaries don’t work for me. I’ve had some success with foils as long as I don’t let the growth get too far gone. But generally if I do I’ll use some clippers (whal balding) then get the blade out.

Even a cheapo travel Braun foil works better for me than an expensive rotary but it takes far to long to get a good shave.

As with everything, consumables is where they make the big profits.

Braun’s are excellent, you only replace the foils and cutters every few years so don’t worry about the pricing.

I've had lots of rechargeable razors over the years.
I wet shave with them using shave gel as a lube, gives a comfortable close shave.

Philips cut best and fastest in my experience, the downside is there's only one battery inside and its soldered in place so once the battery starts to die the thing is scrap, you can buy the correct battery so if you're good at soldering you could in theory have a second life from the unit, my soldering simply isn't good enough.

Braun, spent a lot of money on one, used it for about a month during which time it plucked more hairs than it cut, its still in my bathroom gathering dust, won't have another.

Remington three floating head, very similar to Philips.
Battery lasts much longer, i once dismantled one after i dropped and broke the thing, 2 standard rechargeable AA batteries inside so would have been simple to replace/refurb, whether thats still the same inside the Remington i'm using currently i don't know. Reliable fast durable and recharge lasts ages (which tells me its still twin battery), but they simply don't cut as well as Philips on my mug.

Had a couple of cheap chinese floating head shavers, both of which worked ok till the warranty expired and then pegged out, cut fairly well, i won't buy another.

When i spot a Philips washable floating head jobbie at the right price i'll grab another.
