Boarding a ferry

Hi all

This will be the first summer with my GT4, looking into the possibility of getting the Poole - Cherbourg ferry and then driving down to the south coast of France. I am just wondering if anyone on here has either 1) taken that exact ferry, or 2) taken another cross channel ferry with their 718 GT4?

If so, how was it getting on board - I've had a few front splitter scrapes already in only 6 months of ownership!

Can’t help on the Porsche, but I have taken my S4 Alfa Spider on and off it with no distress. That car has a ridiculously low sump guard.

No experience of that ferry but I assume there is a ramp down and a ramp up and t some point the car is still going down at the front when the ramp up is hit. A bit different to a low sump guard.
Often best to approach these things at a 45 degree angle. But it probably also depends upon the tide.
( I sympathise as I lost a spoiler on a south coast ferry very many years ago.

I get the ferry a lot, they often lay down some form of matting to decrease the angle if you have trouble. Much will depend on the type of ferry and the tide height!

I have a GT3 with lift so no issues, but i have mates with GT4's and they have managed it countless times, so i wouldn't worry.

I have had issues with my Ferrari 360, I am usually last on, loaded onto the ferry deck, even then, at low or high tide you have to be careful. At Caen last year I was one of 5 cars held back whilst officers from the ferry came and looked the the ground clearance.

Its doable, but you have to be super slow on the ramps

How easy (or not) is it to just remove the forward-most part of the spoiler before boarding?

Surely it is just a few Torx or Allen bolts or screws fixing it in place?

Brittany Ferries like most of the ferry operators are used to handling low cars now. Just give reservations a ring to book and explain the car has low ground clearance. The loadmaster / crew will have ramps, planks and may subject to the loading plan place you on a flat deck. The crew absolutely don't want you getting stuck and holding up loading/unloading.
