Just a question regarding the recent "car stolen" threads etc.

Most of the people are coming back saying their cars were never fingerprinted and there was usually not a response.

So if a BIB car that was parked up with the officers away from the vehicle was vandelised / broken into, would the same apply? I mean if they cannot have time to spend the time for the publics vehicles, would it be somewhat hypocritical to put priority on their own?

In the Met every car which is Criminally Damaged or stolen from should be forensically examined. If it isn't there has to be a very good reason stated by the reporting Officer as to why it was not deemed suitable, ie, pissing down with rain, clearly no fingerprints etc....

I've many times helped owners stick carrier bags over broken windows etc, trying to secure any fraction of evidence which might catch the scrote, but then i'm a complete car anorak and others might not be so bothered.

It does get me down when people talk of plod 'not being bothered to turn up'. Each force is different. Trust me, i'm not sat in the canteen eating doghnuts (the chance would be a fine thing). I'm probably at another call deemed more important, such as a domestic filling out half a mile of paperwork and notes, knowing that the 'victim' will drop the whole thing in the morning. Or looking for a 14yr old 'missing person' who's run away for the tenth time this week but is more street-wise than the whole nick put together, and assaults us by biting and kicking us when we try to 'return them to care'.

You see Ghost, you're not the only one who enjoys a good old rant!!!! All the best mate

I think there should be some kind of 'National Service', whereby every member of the public has to travel round in the back of a Police car for a set of lates or night duties. I don't think i'd ever read another moan about the Police on here!! There would be a campaign to pay us more and let us retire even earlier!!

Unfortunately, this is not how it happens in Newcastle. My car was driven into at night causing about 1k's worth of damage. WHoever had done it had obviously got out and had a look, as it was dark (and my car is black) they had a feel around to check out the damage. Then they ....ed off. There were at least half a dozen fingerprints visible from five yards away, yet the plod said forensics wouldn't be interested as it (the car) wasn't damaged badly enough!

but surely its not the BIB's fault, after all they are only following the rules laid down by the Home Office?, (same as the SS in WW2 following Hitlers orders really?)

Well - I would make it the law then that everyone worked my 120 hour plus study when I should have been out boozing! My wife has never let me forget the non event of a romantic interlude when we were "walking out together". (Fell asleep in the middle of dinner - face down in my food! She'd served up oysters (in what she calls a "Go-Cat" sauce as well - she was expecting it to revive me! )

The Chief Constable sets the rules, not the Home Office

Following orders isn't considered a defence in war crimes trials. It doesn't seem very relevant to policing though.

My guess is that most people here are relatively supportive of the Police, and accept most problems are caused by too much form filling, not enough Officers, and daft orders from above.

This thread was merely questioning why a break in vandalism on a Police Car would be investigated in great detail, whilst if it was a member of publics it wouldn't. From the point of view of the MOP the crime against his car is serious. It might have been having a go, but again its not a go at the Officer on the street, its a go at the system.
