As a non-muslim I've just wondered about actual fast duration, as far as I'm aware fasting is between prayer at sunrise and prayer at sunset.

This seems to be a disadvantage the further north you live between the spring and autumn equinox as the days are much there.

Is there "clause" that allows a snack to be taken the further north one lives? I appreciate that there are penalties if fast is broken without reason.

I don't suppose there is a get out clause, an interesting point. Scandies get an extra couple of daylight hours in April.

No - but if you live somewhere where it doesn’t get dark at all (think near the arctic circle) then you would usually follow the sunrise/sunset of somewhere like Saudi Arabia. Snacks definitely a no-no, it’s not meant to be easy

But a simple answer of no, during fasting nothing is to be consumed.

Eid Mubarak!

Also worth noting that Ramadan is not at the same time of the year each year, so even in the same place the fasting period will be longer per day some years than others, if you see what I mean.

I was working in the Middle East about 10 years ago just before ramadam

I got given a little jar of sweets and nuts, I’m not religious but it was a nice bonus for the nonsense I was putting up with at the time

Well if you're allowed to choose I'd choose Makkah.

Thanks for that, it does make sense to be able to choose another city's daylight times.

Yes moves with lunar month so if I understand correctly it moves forward in the calendar by 28 days every year?
