whys Mercedes so cheap?!

Hi Been looking at 2.0D premium cars BMW 3 Series -Audi A4-Merc C-Class around 13-14 plate and notice the Mercedes are a lot cheaper for a 60-70k example is about £7-8k?
Even knocking on Vauxhall Insignias prices or any others really!
why is that ?

I was looking at this part of the market recently. I found that the 13/14 plate Mercs were "old shape" inside and out. When you go to 16 or so plate they jump up in price.

Euro 5 diesels approaching a time when many things need costly replacement.

Euro 6 is the price jump, ulez compliant.

Note they changed the shape of the cars in 2013, but early 2013 cars are not ulez compliant in the 2.1d form. They were tested a year later, so do run a plate through a checker to make sure / check the V5.

I don’t know if it’s widely known enough to affect prices but rear subframe corroding from inside is an issue on that era of C Class, and very difficult to spot.

Some people seem to be able to get them changed almost effortlessly by MB and others hit a brick wall - seems no rhyme or reason why. Even when MB agree to do it, some are done instantly and others left without a car for an extended period.

I did a search of 3 series and C Class on autotrader within 30 miles of me, 13/14 and up to 70k miles

The C Classes are split in terms of pricing, in 2014 the new model was launched - they are priced similar to the 3 series. The cheaper C Classes are the old end of line w204 that are basically a facelift 2007 model at that point.

Yup, W205 model from 2014 onwards was a completely new car. Well worth a look.

Imho the 2014 and earlier is a much more elegant C Class, before the repositioning of the star from the bonnet to the grille where it looked as if removed from a Sprinter van or a coach. The interior at the same time was ‘blinged up’ with loads of chrome or ‘ plastic chrome’ vents and naff detailing. Now, this may suit some markets but it doesn’t appeal. As far as I’m concerned, it just makes the earlier ones better value.

Not necessarily so, it was trim dependent.

My 2011 W204 was a Sport, and had the badge in the grille, aluminium interior trim etc. The Elegance trim of the same year had the bonnet badge - usually on some godawful burgundy car with beige interior

ETA just put my old reg into the MOT checker, passed with no advisories in March on 150k miles - those 220cdi engined cars are pretty decent.
