Anyone think this is worth saving?

My Honda Izy is about 16 yrs old and always worked perfectly. Stored over winter with empty fuel tank. Worked perfect last week but today its won't start.

Air filter and oil are both fine. Removed the coil and the contacts for the magnets were clean. Sprayed some starter fluid into the carb but still won't start. Removed the spark plug which was a bit dirty so cleaned it, rested it on the metal work and pulled the cord but not getting any spark whatsoever.

Now I could try a new plug, but the killer is the body is rotted almost all the way through, probably from not being cleaned underneath properly over the years. Looks ready to fall apart at any minute.

I'm thinking of selling it for parts and getting a cordless mower as my lawn size has shrunk over the years. But I really do like the Honda Izy mowers and i'm sad at the thought of losing it.

I had a body on mine gonlike that, £60 extra at the last service and new body put on.

So for £60 I'd say worth saving.

£60?!? I changed my own and iirc the part was more than that. Well worth saving imo. I also added some stickers... biggrin

From what I can see, replacement body/chassis are around £160 to buy. I would assume a service centre doing he work, and a service would be £250 at least?

An alternative might be to buy a broken Izy and salvage the chassis from it, but that would be a DIY job that Im not sure I can be bothered to do. I;ll have a look for some Youtube guides. Or find a local enthusiast.

Absolutely worth saving. Your deck looks better than mine. £160 later about 4 years ago and we have effectively a new mower. Looking forward to another 18 years. Engine will outlast me.

I ended up selling the mower on Facebook to a guy who needed to replace the engine on his Izy, so at least it will live to cut another day biggrin

Decided to get a Makita 36v cordless mower which is much more suitable for my current lawn.

How easy is it to fit a new deck.

I always start with a new plug regardless if there's a spark or not! Next if still no spark I'd disconnect the kill switch wire from the coil if it sparks then check that cable and circuit.

Top lurking!! beer

It's a piece of piss once the blade is off. 4 bolts hold the engine to the deck and the it's bolts and sprung clips to remove/replace the rest. An impact driver makes light work of it

Fairly simple nuts & bolts job I'd have thought if nothing is corroded too far or snaps while undoing?

Ps. Excellent patience waiting over 16 years to post!
