I've done a bit of googling and trying to work out if I need to do something specific here or not.

I'm planning to put the ECU where the old MEMS went, under the bonnet above the passenger footwell, as the loom is pretty old and I want to mess with it as little as possible.

With that in mind, the PC ports (serial etc) look like they might be a bit exposed? if not to water then to dirt/grime build up over time?

Looking online, I can find pics of two cars, and they both just have the ECU bolted own in that position, with no additional protection, so maybe it is actually fine to leave as is?

I did also find a picture of a tiger install where it had been installed inside a plastic box, with wrigin etc passed through into the box via a rubber grommet.

Does anyone know if simple covers/plugs exist to slot into the ports to at least keep dirt out of the pins? Or is it really not needed and I should just bolt it down and get on with driving the thing?

I'd just for it in place and if you are worried attach a plastic food container on top to keep the dirt out!

Thanks both! I bought little port covers from amazon/ebay, they're slightly looser than I hoped but I'll try them out.

Nic - hello again! U havent forgotten about rhe videos - I have useable internet now so almost everything is backed up. I think google was struggling to sync 4 home videos though because theyre one solid 10GB file and I've not had chance to look into it. I think the cadwell day is one of those.

Glad to hear you still have your caterham! I am into year 5 of mine not really working properly and it's getting really quite annnoying now!

I feel your frustration - my car had an engine refresh last season so I missed nearly all of it. Went to have it oil change on Wednesday this week after the running in mileage - only to find oil in the coolant (but thankfully no coolant in the oil!!)
So engine back out and off to the builder to sort out!!!

Suppose to be going to a welsh beat weekend starting Thursday with a bunch of other 7 ers - not sure I will be going now!!!

I have had a R500K for nearly 7 years.

Those the simpler days, our old 7s mainly working!

If you ask Dave Walker at Emerald he is quick to answer and probably knows the best answer.

yep will do - thanks - the car is back off the road again so I need to sort some other stuff first but then will check with him on this.

The ECU works really well!
