Standard BMW system. I keep her as original as possible.
Lovely, looks the same as mine. Silverstone II is a stunning colour in the sunlight. I'm keeping mine standard, mainly due to the BMW warranty I have on it, but also as I think some things are best not messed around with.
Just a few thoughts from a fellow owner, have the rod bearings been changed at all? It was the first job on mine when I got it, which was wise as it turned out due to the wear they had!
Some reckon the injectors are a vulnerability, it they fail they fail open which can quickly lead to catastrophic engine borkage. I'm not sure why they fail though (might be related to failing fuel filter?)
There are various other bits of preventive maintenance that are worth doing (vanos line etc) but I think they are the main engine killers.
(You may know all this already though)
With proper care and maintenance these engines can last many 100s of thousands of miles, so enjoy!

I've wanted one of these since I watched a video on YouTube of one running an aftermarket exhaust, and it reminded me of a 90s F1 car. However, I'm not holding out much hope for the gearbox being as much fun as the engine.
Has anyone done a manual conversion on one of these?
Dont believe all you read online, those who complain about the gearbox haven't a clue how to drive them and have probably never seen one of the cars let alone owned and driven one. The gearbox is brilliant once you get used to and know how to use the settings. Has anyone done a manual conversion on one of these?
They've been serviced within an inch of their lives though and they're used daily... Maybe using them properly is what keeps them sweet?

It is an older gearbox and so is not like a dct or zf8, but once you learn to use it as intended it is a lot of fun.
But yes, they can be converted to manuals and I know of a few that have been done now, although mostly M5s.
