Nested quoted comments nearly impossible to follow
Discussion
I recall years ago it was tolerable.
Then it was very good with every other nested item shaded across the entire quote, inc the part that holds the username.
Then it changed again, to the current appearance with the speech bubble style.
But the username floats within the box of the quotee above, and without shading it’s even harder to figure out.
Can we have a better style again please?
Whoever designed the latest one, yes it looks ‘nicer’ and for one or two quotes it’s fine, but for any more than that it’s just a mess.
Thanks

I agree it is sometimes hard to follow, it is sometimes lazy posters who make little attempt to edit to help subsequent readers. Then it was very good with every other nested item shaded across the entire quote, inc the part that holds the username.

I wonder why we really need multi quotes beyond the last two posts, seems unnecessary.
I dunno, some of the threads can get hard to follow if you’re in and out less regularly than regular contributors. But I agree that it’s broadly unnecessary if you’re reading along with things.
Perhaps nested quotes that are hidden beyond a level or two, and a button to ‘reveal’ them for those interested in how things got to the bit you can see, if they haven’t been reading along regularly.
Thanks again

I don’t even know how you multi quote on a mobile?

I mean, it's not perfect, but it's not that bad.
Certainly a looonnnngggg way from the most annoying 'feature' of this forum.
Remind me how many years we've had a 3rs party image uploader, in beta, that can only upload one photo at a time, which is blocked by various spam filters such as the one at my work.
Sort that out first please!

Limit it to say 5 or 6 as it can be helpful to see nested quotes & yes it is totally & utterly impossible to work out who said what with the current design when viewing more than a few nested quotes.
In my opinion etc
I agree.In my opinion etc

Probably is the reason arguments start when poster C thinks that poster F has insulted them when it was actually poster E.

Yeah, good luck with any development happening!
The forums are being run into the ground, because they don't directly contribute to the bottom line now we've been taken over.
I strongly suspect that the forums account for the majority of site traffic, meaning forumites bring in the advertising revenue. The forums are being run into the ground, because they don't directly contribute to the bottom line now we've been taken over.
I know that without the forums i would have no need to visit the site.

Oh, completely. We must drive the majority of the site traffic, and they should be able to pick that out of the stats, maybe I'm wrong and the site content drives it own traffic, certainly it doesn't appear they see the forums that way somehow I know that without the forums i would have no need to visit the site.
I would expect even the classifieds is significantly driven by the forums, but I don't know.
Personally I'm genuinely supprised there has been more development of the forums, but clearly there hasn't!
