Temperature all time high

Usually my temp stays around the normal 75-80º, sometimes creeping up to the late 80's in traffic. But yesterday evening I hit an all-time high, when in near stationary traffic for over an hour.... I watched in dismay and trepidation, fans on full, as the guage crept up to a whopping 98º !! Once I could get going and had air moving over the engine it cooled down again.

I had a new Sender put in about 10 days ago (the old one worked only intermittently), so it may just be that it was not only faulty but under-read slightly.

Thoughts anyone?

Mine has a re-cored rad, I've resently replaced the stat and otter switch with the correct ones. Mine reads high 80 and will creap above 90 in traffic.

I remember seeing very high 90's in my old one if sitting in traffic for a while, but as you say soon cooled down again afterwards once moving. I fixed this characteristic with a lower temerature otter switch, as the original TVR one didn't switch on till 92 degrees therefore there was a lot of work to do in cooling from there. The lower temp one comes on at 84 from memory. (? or was it 87, or 82)

I saw 110-115 on mine at the last vmax for about a millisecond, never seen Craig move so quickly outta the way for a cool down lap :hehe

Mine regularily sat around 95-100 when in slow traffic.

I took the opportunity to fit the Leven cooling kit (lower temp stat and lower temp otter switch) when the rad blew a couple of weeks ago and it's now very rare to hit 90.

Much more comforting when stuck in traffic. Highly recommend it.

Cheers. Sounds like I may have to get myself a new otter switch if I see it happening regularly. Ususally avoid traffic at all costs, even if it means taking the longer/faster route!

Despite the temperature panic, it's worth that "cool down" lap afterwards.... Heh heh.

The "Leven Cooling Kit" is just a stat, otter switch and a bottle of water wetter isn't it.? The stat and low temp otter switch are standard TVR Maindealer "off-the-shelf" parts if anyone wants to get them separately.

They can read 100 in hot conditions with no bother. As long as the fans are cutting in & out all is well.

(It when you see 120, realised there is no fan noise, just a scary bubbling, you know there's trubs ahead!)

I've got an over ride switch on mine and at the first sign of heavy traffic I turn it on, so far, no problems.

Most other cars run at around 90 deg when fully warmed up. I think the Rover V8 should be around the same (hence the thermostat opening/closing temps around this mark). Certainly my old Chimaera ran at 88-90 most of the time, with sorties up to 98-100 in really really hot weather stuck in traffic (fans running of course). This is pretty normal IMO. Remember, the coolant does not boil at 100. My T350 runs at 88-90 normally, going to 94-98 in nasty traffic. All pretty normal.

Maybe some peoples gauges run a bit low? Certainly having the car at 80 or below seems a bit cool to me.
