Range Rover L494 and a third party warranty

Hi all,

Would I be mad to consider spending 25-30k on 7-8 year old Range Rover Sport? (L494)

I really want one and so does the wife but I see a lot of scare mongering/horror stories; how bad are they to actually own?

I do roughly 8k miles a year so I know it doesn’t really justify a diesel but can’t see any petrols in budget.

Edit: forgot to ask whether a third party warranty is worth it on a vehicle like this? Seem to be getting quotes around 1.5k for 3 years with AA and similar

I dont have any experience of the car but I wouldnt bother with the warranty. I've had an AA one previously and it was a pain.

Maximum claim limits and garages locally didn't want to deal with the warranty company

Both look good but seem higher than average miles - do these take their mileage well and does mileage not necessarily correlate to problems if they’ve been well looked after?

More I read up about third party warranties, the more it puts me off.
Seems to be cheaper to “self insure” but I’m just worried about a mega expensive bill!

great cars when they do run properly.

plenty of horror stories online with big bills.

3rd party warranties are known to wiggle out of paying out, there was a huge thread on here about a bmw m5 that had engine failure, and the warranty company refused it.

but once again, they are fantastic cars, and if you can afford one and the maintance then do get one.

Seems like self insuring will be the best option then

I’d like to know how much they cost to maintain annually.
I know it differs but when buying my 911, I watched a few video’s on yearly maintenance and got a rough idea; but I can’t seem to find anything on the Range Rover.

Would putting £2.5k away yearly cover the costs of a car like this to maintain and service or am I dreaming?

If you buy a V8 get the coolant pipes changed, this is the Jaguar TSB same engine, I believe there is also a land rover TSB.

How does the Vogue compare with the Sport? Much more to maintain and is it worth the couple of grand difference? (Like for like year/mileage)
