Hi All,

How have people found buying new cars from Porsche?

I'm on to my second new car from them and I have to say the whole experience is poor. It generally feels like "it is my privilege to be buying from Porsche", and this isn't just with one dealer. Both Porsche Newcastle and Solihull have been shocking. My theory is because i'm not a high net worth individual buying a Macan S and Taycan Cross 4s, not GTSs and Turbo Ss. Both experienced delays, Macan back in 2019 and Taycan now, but they couldn't give a s**t and would just let me chase for an update. The only time they contacted me was when they wanted more money because the price of the Taycan has gone up in the 19+ months since my order.

They generally don't care because they know the brand sells it's self. I had better experience when i bought my Audi.

So frustrating!

I doubt it will be the function of the car you are buying, probably just bad luck.
I bought a mere Used Approved from Porsche Teesside and the experience was good. Also good aftersales-I discovered after 18 months when wanting to change tyres that it had been supplied with non-OEM locking nuts and no key. They reimbursed what I paid for them to be machined off and sent a new set of OEM nuts without quibble.

Sounds like you need to choose your OPC carefully. Mate of mine buying a new Macan has had a similar experience and spent a lot of time trying to get a reply to emails and phone messages from the sales guy.

Brand experts will be happy to hear that Porsche are still able to do the 'you need us more than we need you' schtick. It's part of the appeal. Just like Rolex, who sell over a million watches a year, when you get it right it works.

Buying a product you don't want in order to be invited to buy the one you do want is all part of the 'we are not worthy' of your GT3 / Rolex Daytona creation.

It's sent up in the film 'Triangle of Sadness' very well. The trailer pokes fun at smily brand (H&M) versus grumpy brand (Balenciaga)

I think Porsche may be a grumpy brand.

I walked away from a GT3 at Newcastle c 18 months ago, I thought their attitude was extremely poor. The salesman wouldn't give me a penny off and bid me in the balls for my high spec macan - he might've got away with it but came out with the line 'oh macans aren't an easy sell, esp high spec ones' yeah ok mate...did a deal with Glasgow the next day

I don’t think it’s confined just to Porsche although they appear to excel at the low/ poor service attitude which from experience tends to be driven downwards internally by the DP’s so I’m sure “ some “ OPC ‘s must be decent enough.
New car service v money paid though - appalling.

I'd say don't buy from them and try another brand instead, maybe Audi who are probably selling broadly the same cars as the OP mentions.

Thing is though the OPC probably won't be bothered as someone else will come along and buy their cars

I just bought a brand new Toyota Supra, pretty rubbish service as well constantly having to chase them for the stupidest of things and still waiting 4 weeks on for some information regarding service plans.

All my experiences with the two OPC's I have used (Bristol and Portsmouth) have been nothing but excellent. I was looking at buying a brand new Cayman GTS 4.0 at the time I was open and honest with them that it was a big purchase for me, not a HNW who can just buy what he likes and they were superb, patient, bit of a nudge every now and then. Life got turned upside down a bit and had to buy a used Macan, probably the cheapest car in all of the used inventory nationwide at the time, again, service, updates nothing short of great. Warranty work has been spot on too.

Sorry to hear that isn't your experience, but I get the feeling there is also a lot of super precious customers out there too, who want to be pampered to the nth degree, which also must be draining and time consuming.

I have used 3 OPCs.

They range from really, really good to so bad I would never go near them ever again.

The best one I have used is Cambridge. Very good service and never felt like I was insignificant. (even though I am)
Bought 3 cars from them in the end.

I still keep in touch with the chap I deal with from time to time - really nice guy.

Mate of mine had the same experience with Cambridge, he bought a used basic Macan diesel, traded in a well used Mercedes SL300 and has had very good service from them.

Portsmouth have always been good, they don’t drop to their knees when we walk in but on the other hand they don’t cough over us like we are paupers. They have always been very helpful and enthusiastic even when we are humble Macan buyers.

I guess they have to deal with a lot of time wasters plus the delivery issues but you would like to think they treat all potential buyers the same.

Cheers for all the responses. It is interesting to hear these and i'm glad i'm not the only one.

I get that things get delayed, especially with things going on in the world. But the lack of a phone call or any customer service when things are delayed are a surprise given the brand. I had better service from my local repair shop where the car parts we delayed for months, i'd get a call / text on updates every other day.

I'd love to walk away but i'm 19 months down the line waiting for the car, (looks like it will be 20 months) .
