This appeared on a local forum but I can’t identify the car. My guess was a Mercedes-Benz SSK but I can’t see any stock photos with that style of exhaust and the arches look slight different.
I don’t know the year of the photo, it was hoped the car may help.

Any ideas?

Much earlier than the SSK, I'd guess around 1920/22. Lots of manufacturers built "sports" versions of very mundane models, often with an outside exhaust and sporty bodywork.

It does have the look of an Alvis 12/50 about it, including the steering wheel controls. Not exactly to the usual 'Duck's Back' design, but could be a home made body.

That’s a good shout, there is a picture of one on Google with an identical exhaust

These really old cars can be the hardest to identify, as there were dozens of tiny car companies literally handbuilding in little sheds back then.

Looks like it could be a 1924 Swiftmobile. Might even be one of the super rare supercharged 1925 models, they only made six before going out of business because they were too good.

Are you sure you are not getting it confused with the Thripps Thunderclap?
