What happens if you pay July self-assessment late?

What happens if you pay July self-assessment late? Is it a soft deadline or a real one like January?

And if I'm going to be late with it, or just not pay until January, can I just let July pass or do I have to tell them in advance?

You’ll get reminders with interest added same as the January 1

You only get fined I believe for not filing on time

Not to say they won’t eventually chase the debt through debt collectors

Why does the OP plan to pay late?

Is the Payment on Account too high perhaps?

I did not pay last year (or maybe the year before, I cannot remember) thinking it was only an issue of interest and wanted to wait until some new income came in. I had a debt collection company threaten me. Not sure why it happened like this.
