I have put the Chimaera up for sale. I hope she can find a good home to go to. Motoring will never be same again - until I get another one that is...
I've dreaded the day when I would seat down and do this Excel spreadsheet... A baby is on his way, and because of the less than generous Blairite family policy we will basically lose my wife's income for 3 to 6 months. Add a need for a third seat to this and the sums simply won't add up - believe me I've tried.
I am sitting in the office, it is dark outside, I have sh1ts loads to do before I can go home, and feel really down
I don't know how this decision will impact my 'presence' on PH. Driving a dull-mobile I might find it painful to read the Gassing Station. My optimistic nature is of no help this time as I am deeply convinced no other marque will provide a 10th of the fun I had in the Chimaera. For me, motoring is over, I have to go back to a mere vehicle.
I have only had the car for a bit less than a year and covered some 19,000 miles over this period. As Ted once wrote, buying a TVR is far more than buying a car. Indeed, Stef and myself have been overwhelmed by the amazing social dimension of TVR ownership. Attending some TVRCC meetings, PH2, Pie and Trout, Pie on the Beach, Back Home, Motorsport Mania (Castle Combe) and Mania (Duxford, the drive through the Through of Bowland, the Sunday spins in the Chilterns, ... all this has been immense fun and as many occasions to meet some really great people - some of whom have become friends. I feel really privileged as a Frenchman to have been allowed in the TVR-World. Not that it is closed or anything, rather, I feel have been lucky enough to sample some of the very best things Britain has to offer.
I hope to be able to return to the fold within a year or 2. In the meantime I will be lurking with envy - and respect. If you drive a TVR and you see a crazy Frenchman coming towards you, talking non-sense and looking at your car in a strange way, please be tolerant.
May be it is my limited command of the English language, but I find it extremely hard to put words on these feelings. I know for some people TVR ownership has proved a painful experience. As far as I am concerned, the experience has exceeded my wildest expectation by miles. I simply didn't know a car could be so much fun.
Ironically, I am putting my car up for sale just as TVR adds a news beast to its range. Who knows I may well own one of these one day. At least there's hope.

It's time to look forward to the TVR's you will own in the future.
It's better to have loved and lost than to never loved at all.
I.e: Some people will never have an opportunity to drive (let alone own) a REAL car like your Chimaera.
You should never feel that owning a mundane veichle will effect you on this site.
I only have an Astra, some people own similar cars. One lad (newbie), sorry can't remember your name drives his mum & dad's skoda!......
Always look on the bright side of life (life of Brian aprox. 1980)
Think of the stories you will be able to tell your children, and then when they leave home, you will be able to afford two TVR's on the money you save on food etc

Many of your fellow PHers have been there before and it gets better believe me. Plenty of cars with nominal 4 seats (nominal is all it needs be) to tide you over until you go full 2 seater again.
And for fecks sakes man, of course you should still come to the PH meets
. Lots of passenger seats would go begging otherwise and it's more fun going for a hoon with someone else to share the experience. And do you really go to PH meets to look at cars? Didn't think so- you go to have a larf with like minded people.
So take it easy. Everything's fine. Really!

Yup that would be me. Don't know if I qualify as a newbie though as I tend to lurk. I think I've been here longer than Carzee....
rthierry are you SURE you couldn't afford a cerbie there are some going at very reasonable prices I've heard.
As for the skoda well please feel free to rip the piss. I've jsut seen a very nice Chimeara 500 in the classified section for 17,500.
Didn't realise they were so cheap. Just out of curiosity what kind of income do you need to run one of these beasties. I (hopefully) will be graduating as a mechanical engineer next year and already have a job lined up.

Sorry Andy, No offence intended. I was not taking the pi55 in any way. Just merely suggesting that you don't need to own a car to be here.

Ive always had sh1t mobiles (except for work ones and some of them have been sh1t mobiles too). You can still have a good relationship with the sh1tmobile you may buy, just not quite the power underneath it. I still have fun, occasionally. Congrats on the baby. Life will never be the same again, remember it fondly

At least you have had the experience of TVR ownership. I have only had the Chimaera since feb this year. Many people lust after one but cannot afford the dream. I hope you will have fond memories. If it went tomorrow I would be gutted, but at least I am able to "tick the box" and just enjoy every minute. Tomorrow is not a promise, do it now.

How about an E36 M3 ??? four seats, huge boot, under £10k for the 286bhp M3 bit more for the later 320bhp M3Evo. Sort of like a TVR but built by germans...
Smaller budget how about an E30 £5-8 for an M3 ( if ya can live with LHD or from £900 to say £3k you could get a 10 yr old 318is or for a yowl of a six a 325i Sport all fun, all tail happy and all kiddie friendly.

It has to be said while not in your situation at the moment, Mrs Dan has dropped more than a few hints. If I did have to sell the Griff (heaven forbid) I have given some thought to the alternatives. I recon an 'S' could be run alongside a eurobox without spending silly money, and you still get the TVR Buzz.
As has been said (in so many words) 'Once a PHer always a PHer' there is no reason why you can't blag a lift with someone else. And you have all those memories (like your spin at Quarry Corner )
I wont be at BT&p but I hope to see you, Stef and Roms jnr. at other events
