There are two separate modules in the key.

One is operated by the buttons & battery and locks / unlocks the car as well as opening the frunk.

The other is the immobiliser transponder, which is not connected to the battery. If you open the key up, this looks like a small grey bar against one edge of the key shell next to the battery holder.

If the transponder is missing or damaged, this will cause the problem you’re describing. If you’ve replaced the key shell then you need to very carefully remove the transponder from the old one (it’s glued in) and install it in the new shell.

Thanks very much for getting back to me, you are exactly right. Seems the transponder is missing, it could not have been bonded in when the fob was changed. So unfortunately I think it may have disappeared into our dyson during a battery change.
Now need to locate the correct transponder and then re-programmed.

Kind regards

it might be worth contacting this chap, he's developed a method for producing Porsche keys.
