Trailer light board issues
Discussion
Tried my detachable light board for our trailer today , Everything functions except the right flasher . The car is fine everything works ok
Checked the usual bulbs all ok , so took to the car to a trailer firm , who thought the pin socket on the car may be faulty , they couldn't fit me in for two weeks so I bought a 7 pin socket and replaced it on the car .......... exactly the same issue the Right flasher does not work
Anyone come across this its a Mitsubishi outlander PHEV ,
cheers
A bit of simple auto electrics. Is there power to the relevant terminal on the car socket when the indicator is on? Multimeter or 12v tester will light up bulb if there is. (Needs earthed, not like a 240v tester)
If not, trace it back, where's it connected to the car loom? Is there a break in the wire between the 2?

If you're in a rush, run a wire from the live on the RH indicator to that pin on the socket.
If you have some time, supply 12v to that pin, does the light board light? If yes, then it's a break between car loom and socket. If no, then it's a problem between socket (on the lightboard) and the bulb.

thanks , unfortunately i dont have a multi meter handy as im not at home , that was my take probably a break in the wire somewhere , definitely not the lightboard as the trailer vendor hooked his light board with same right hand flasher not working If you have some time, supply 12v to that pin, does the light board light? Is this original factory fit or factory harness plug'n'play towing electrics?
Or an aftermarket break-into-the-wires-with-scotchloks affair?
If the last then I'd have a good look at the scotchloks.
Despite having perfectly good plug'n'play sockets my own car had had the scotchlok job done on it before I bought it. Nothing but trouble.

But a cheap multi meter and set to DC volts the lowest scale.nost likely often something like 50v
Out positive lead on the indicator supply pin and the negative on the earth pin or bolt on the towbar
You should have 12v or more with the engine running and indicators on well 12v and then back to zero in sequence
If you have less then this you have a bad connection
Nothing at all probably a broken cable or connector
You tracing the wiring back as far as you can find where they are tied into the cars wiring

For a modern canbus car it's not so simple anymore to diagnose. I recently fitted a Westfalia towbar and car specific kit to my 2016 BMW, the tow module wiring only taps into the loom brake wire, canbus wires, earth and battery live, and somehow works out all the rest to output the correct voltages to the hitch connector.

king annoying following a vehicle and its trailer indicators don’t work. I hope you manage to fix it soon!
