Can you mix makes of Brake Callipers on the same Axle?
Discussion
As above please.
Son has an old Vauxhall Combo van that needs new brake Callipers and discs on the rear axle.
He has found a Lucas calliper (Lucas is fitted to the vehicle OEM) for the right hand side very reasonably priced (£34) but can’t get Lucas for the left hand side. He has however found another make for the same price.
Does that matter or should he fork out for the same make Callipers (Ridex) (£95 the pair)
Cheers in advance
Steve.

If the discs are the same part number for both calipers then it should fit ok but I'd double check the caliper piston sizes match as well.
I know the BMW Mini has at least two sizes of pistons in the rear caliper (34 & 36mm) depending on year/model. Also worth checking if there were any changes to handbrake mechanism ?
But if it matches up then personally I'd have no problem in different manufacturer's names on the castings.

I think you may be confusing the companies that manufacture calipers (for the initial factory build of the car) with those that REmanufacture (aka refurbish) those same calipers at a later date for replacing failed ones. Easily done, as there is some cross-over where companies do both (eg Bosch, Bendix), and also the notable case of Lucas who were once a manufacturer but is now 'just a name' bought by a company that refurbishes them.
What obviously matters is i) whether the replacement is physically correct, and ii) whether it has been refurbished to a good standard. The name on the box, less so.
