Hello all.

Installing a new laptop, and slapped FFox on there.

Works, but doesn't seem to connect to any https sites. They just time out.

I use the same build on the same network with a number of other machines (both windows and linux) and none of them exhibit a similar issue.

Most odd. Ideas?

You don't say what OS so it's difficult to be sure what's going on.

Have you checked the proxy config in firefox and any software/hardware firewalls that may be running?

You can check if it's firefox or not by telnetting to the destination website on port 443.

telnet google.com 443

If you get a connection it's a firefox problem, if you don't it's probably a firewall/OS issue.

I can't see how it can be the OS or the firewall.

Different browser on the same machine hooks up just fine.

Win 2000 Pro, if it matters.

Check the firefox proxy set up in tools/options/connection settings. This may have become garbled.

Are you running a software firewall? If other browsers are working on this machine it may be that the firewall is blocking ports for firefox only.

I'm more of a unix/linux than windows person, but hope that this helps.

Proxy is good. No SW firewall.

I'm more of a Unix/Linux guy as well, hence me scratching my head.

Oh well, I'll break out Ethereal and see what it thinks.

Yup. https requests not responded to. So I assume they're not making it out. Must be a dumb conig setting somewhere.

Or the reply isn't making it back for some reason. If other browsers and telnet are working, then apart from a reinstall of firefox it's a puzzler.
