Do it all Rolex?

Now the market is cooling and availability appears to be increasing, I’m in the process of consolidating my collection.

What would you go for?

I’d like a Bluesy, but it could be too bling for some occasions?

I’m really liking the YM40 platinum slate dial as well.

A black no-date Sub is probably the answer, but it’s a bit, well, boring?

Any thoughts from the brains trust?

Well, the number one do it all watch available in the market just happens to also be a Rolex......the Explorer 1.

Batgirl? Can dress it up or down, and you have the gmt function when travelling.

I think the Submariner is THE one watch currently in production now that there is no black bezel GMT anymore!

I don’t think it’s boring, I see it as a regular 993 C2

But it I was going for ONE watch I would have a 5 digit GMT with 3 bezel insert options

No budget mentioned. So, with that in mind, what about a white gold day date 36.

Small enough not to be too bling.

Will look like a steel datejust when trying to be causal with jeans and a t shirt. Smart enough to go with a suit when required. Then everything else in between too!

Explorer II, has GMT and flies slightly under the radar, at least compared to a Sub or GMT

I would go Sub. I had a Sub, Milguauss and Yacht Master , the polished bezel on the milguauss and polished centre links on the Yachty were too blingy for me. Shame as the YM was the best fit for me by far. I may go back to one. The 124060 has grown too large for me , the proportions are better than the 114060, but overall the fit isn't as nice on me as my old hulk. So...NOS 116600 is my choice (and not considered by you hahah)

I'd go Explorer 2 personally, less common than the Sub which is most peoples first Rolex

I don't think the Exp2 makes a decent dress watch. Good tool watch perhaps but definitely not good enough as a dress watch imho.

You hit the nail on the head with the 1st watch you mentioned.

Whilst the 'bluesy' is not my fav Rolex, it's the one the is perfect for most occasions, and the one I find I wear the most.

If I were to own only one, it would be that.

It’s such a good “everything” watch. Size is such a personal thing. It just looks too big as a 42 though!

Thinking slightly differently though. A late larger Cellini with a few different straps could do everything too. Black and brown leather and a suede too would work wonderfully for most things. Just not an obvious choice!

I've covered this off in the "other" thread. This is all you need. Keeps great time, discreet, you can crack nuts with it and not every other bloke in the pub has the same watch.

It's the do it all Rolex.

Thanks all for your input.

Im ditching a bi-metal DJ36, which is obviously dressier, but steers me away from Jubilee and fluted options.

I like the DD, but would have to go full yellow gold President, which I don’t think I can pull off.

AK and Explorer don’t really sing to me. Nor Cellini.

Not sure a pocket watch works with t-shirt and jeans?
