Best phone maps app for exploring

As above. What app have you found best to just have open showing location and roads without directions?

Apple Maps is useless and Google without directions put the phone to screensaver. Also my gloves which are meant to be phone friendly are absolutely not!

I just use Waze. Zoom level stays where it is put, can have either track up or North up and Police/cameras are flagged.

I may have to get a modern phone and a handlebar mount.
