Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to change a DNS server and what server i would need to change to if i am using AOL as an ISP? I was told that this is why i am having problems with the router find some, but not all pages (see problem below)

thanks

On a friends home network everything was working ok, but the wireless signal was unsecured, he wanted it to have some security so I went around to put a 128bit encryption on the signal, changed the channel to 06 and hid the SSID. All went well on the network for a few hours then I get a call say that he can’t access some sites. I went around again taking another look and nothing had changed from what I did so I was slightly baffled. I put the settings back to the original but I still can’t access to all sites (like MSN.co.uk). The router is the only item in the network that had its settings changed (Netgear DG834G v2 the white one) but changing it back has had no affect. Has anyone come across this before?

its not DNS server settings - its the MTU size thats the problem. AOL use a non-std MTU size - you need to change it to 1400

login into the router;

http://192.168.0.1

goto wan settings page and change it then apply

could be anything - BT were having probs yesterday at some exchanges..and AOL run on BTs kit..

if in doubt then just do a hardware reset on the router and re-configure it.

also check the firmware version

have a look on the support site for the DG834G here http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/dg834gv2.asp for latest firmware, and user manual...which you may wish to read
