Sales phone calls and TPS
Discussion
Just what does it take to stop these morons calling my home numbers and trying to sell me all sorts of crap I don't want?
Apart from the odd PH distraction, I'm trying to work from home today and could do with some peace and quiet. Already I've had one 'witheld number' call and nobody on the other end, then a guy trying to get me to buy windows/facias/security systems. I don't want any of this! If I do I'll ring you!
I registered my number with the TPS several months ago, but still get these calls. Who knows how many come in during the days I'm not at home.
I always think of what I should have said after I've put the phone down. I assume I should get the callers name and company and report it to TPS?
Anyone else having such problems?

Get the company details and then tell them you're registered with the TPS and you will be reporting them.
However, if they're calling from outside the UK then you're stuffed
Use caller ID to screen your calls - if it's withheld let the answerphone pick it up. If it's importand they'll leave a message.

yep, see here www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=201839&f=141&h=0 registered with TPS and don't seem to have had any since
We have registered with TPS and still get calls from Bowater windows or whatever they are - when you say not interested in whatever they are selling they say "we are not selling just letting you know a rep is in the area blah, blah, blah" They rely on British politness that you won't hang up on them. Best to just hang-up or say I'll just get him for you and keep them on the line for ages instead

Just tell them you are registered with TPS and they crap themselves, very funny and very quick way of getting rid of them
I believe it is only a requirement for companies to update their records from the TPS (and FPS, MPS and CTPS) at least every 6 months, so you may have to wait a few more months for them to update their records.
Mention TPS and the call will end pretty quickly. Alternatively, tell them you are in prison (double glazing sales), live on the third floor (conservatories) or live in a submarine (damp proofing).
Personally, I regret having registered with the TPS... these calls can be great fun when you're in the right mood!
