E-Class Coupe Convertible

I'm looking for a car at the minute and am being drawn towards E Class Coupe Convertibles, there seems to be plenty around that come in under my 10-12k budget which on paper looks like a lot of car for they money.
Any thoughts on on these? The ones I'm looking at seem to have 40-60k - am I on dodgy ground with that kind of mileage? Should there be any work which is 'must have' to have been done before I part with any cash?
I have one child - 6 years old, am I going to curse the lack of rear doors?!
I've not seen one in person yet - the boot is it usable or not?

We've had a late 2015 E350d A207 (convertible) now for two years and love it although I wouldn't like to have to use the back seats on a regular basis. Its actually quite easy as on ours the seats move backward and forward automatically when you use the mechanism.
Are you thinking petrol or diesel ? If diesel check to see if either of the NOX sensors have been replaced as that's the only real weak point on those and they aren't cheap and can be difficult to source.

The E-class coupe and convertibles always seem to be less in demand than the C-class versions. No idea why, perhaps the general public just want the smaller car.
The thing that puts me off the convertible is that it is an actual soft-top rather than a folding hardtop, so you'd definitely would want a lengthy test drive to make sure you could life with whatever road noise there was.
Also, I think you'd have to assume there isn't going to be enough room in the boot with the roof down.

Boot size is not bad on the convertible as you can fold the roof housing up if not using the roof but its a manual process. The A207 is based on the C Class chassis I believe but it has OK space, if you can call it that, in the back. Road noise is not bad at all to be honest. I did nearly 400 miles last week and hardly noticeable.
I don’t think you’ll be looking at the post 2013 shape change (headlights go from two separate squares to one smooth curvy unit), but if it matters ulez compliance wasn’t automatic with the diesels. There are 2013 and 14 cars which are still euro 5.
Obvs if petrol, no issues.
Think the dervs are all chain driven, so less maintenance, not sure about the petrols.

I had an E350 Convertible, 13 plate so just into the facelift for 4 years.
Overall an excellent car, had no problems with it, unlike an E350 CDI estate we had which had the oil seal issue (£5 part, £600 labour). It wasn't any (or barely) noisier than a hardtop and was very useable as a soft top due to the air scarves and windscreen mounted pop up deflector.
If it was me and I was getting another, I'd go for the E400 petrol, but the E350 was quite refined in fairness and returned 40mpg, but certainly didn't have an engaging engine note. The soft top did however, take some maintenance to keep looking nice, if it's an outdoor car, keep this in mind.
The only real downside I would say is that they are pure cruisers and are quite anodyne in their approach. I now have an M4 convertible and I prefer the engine and the hard top, but obviously, you pay your money and take your choice.

Always admired the shape of the old E class coupe and convertible and I was looking at soft tops with rear seats as we also have a 7 year old. I enjoyed the drive with the top down but didn’t go for it as it does feel like a very big car to me whereas I prefer more sporty. The Diesel engine was smooth but a bit lazy and I didn’t like the hesitation on kick down particularly. It would make a great cruiser though and had a quality interior with plenty of space. I climbed in the back to test the room and it was fine.
Worth noting that the coupe is quite cool. They are pillarless so you can drop the windows and open up the whole side. If you get one with pan roof which was a common option it’s almost a convertible anyway.

I've had an 2012 E500 Convertible for the last five years.
Rear seats are bit limited for adults but fine for children. The boot is actually pretty good but when you drop the hood if have to make sure the separator is in place to protect the roof from the contents of your boot, so you lose probably half the useful space.
Mine has the switchable Comfort / Sport Dynamic Handling Package. The suspension is noticeably sharper in Sport mode and the engine is noticeably livelier, so much so it's referred to as Comfort or Silly mode.

These are great cars personally an E Coupe with the pan roof is the pick & this E500 (although over your mileage limit) is the pick in your price range it even has the super rare option of Air Cooled seats:Any thoughts on on these? I own a 350cdi coupe 59 reg.
It's a great cruiser, it's definitely not a sports car though. The oil seals went on mine 7 months after I bought it, luckily picked up by the warranty company or it would have cost a grand to fix. Other than that its been very reliable, touch wood. It's a very comfortable car. I'd make sure that any car you look at has had the oil cooler and oil cooler seals have been done, according to the specialist it's a case of when not if they go.
They make a pretty good sound too....
