I our area nearly all the fixed speed cameras have been removed. They are older ones and the pole has also gone. There is still a power source box there. A couple of newer ones have been left in place.
The local rumour is they are off being upgraded to measure down to 20mph.
Bearing in mind a Wales policy change away from blanket 20 zones to selected zones we might see them popping up elsewhere.
Several of these removed cameras were in locations where a 20 zone would be definite overkill.
Interesting to see the future outcome.
In the meantime our County Council are considering buying a camera van in their words “ to generate income”. I’d like to see the costing for that to set up and run versus income. It looks good on their resume as being safety and environmentally concerned but they have shot themselves in the foot with the income target.

My guess is that all, or nearly all, the old wet film Gatso units are nothing more than a yellow deterrent these days. There are lots still installed around here, but since it’ll cost money to remove them, I guess they’ll be there forever or until replaced by a digital box.

If your local authority is anything like mine (also welsh) then you've a whole load of average speed cameras incoming.

Average cams are so much cheaper and catch so many more, I’d bet that’s the replacement

According to Clarkson there is a little hole at the back perfect for squirting expanding foam into. Would be more entertaining watching it explode in slow motion hehe The French put a stop to clamping, with a supposedly spontaneous nationwide campaign of putting superglue into the locks of the clamps used. I'd like to think it was true.

Speeding fines should be banned, only points. Then we'll see if they still care.
