It wasn’t all that long ago when an introduction into the Porsche ownership world was somewhat an affordable pleasure. The 944 offered this affordability to many a working class chap like myself. But in recent years, and it’s only within the last 5 years, the 944 has become an appreciating car to own or to collect.

Today I woke upto an email showing one of the latest examples for sale from Tom Hartley. A 1991 944 Turbo, Baltic Blue example of the marque with 6,300 miles on the clock. Priced at £44,950. Overpriced or an ultra low mileage as new bargain?

Years ago I had this plan of getting a 944 and doing it up. I even had an old account on here "944 Fan" but I flounced.

Back then a 944 Turbo needing a bit of work was less than 7k, madness to see how they are going for now. Easy to say with hindsight I should have done it but I do kick myself

Yep.

If I had £45k and it had to be a Porsche... and I could fit another £5k onto the budget (because I didn't know how to negotiate): https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202210241...

Or save £10k and get a 996 Turbo. I just took mine out for a 20 minute run in the sun. I want to go back out again!

Any car of notable age with only 6k miles on the clock is a one off, and is about as representative of value as "The Rock" is of the average male.

Just one car, looking for just one buyer, there will be no other.

In relative terms a brand new Porsche 944 was only attainable for the relatively well healed people. Much less so to buy an equivalent car now IMHO.

Average new car price in the UK was £48k last month apparently, so it's cheaper than that...every cloud....

If it’s been serviced annually could be a great buy. If sat around I’d be a bit nervous of a 944 turbo like this. They need use.

At less than 200 miles a year, how often was the car even brought up to proper operating temp...

Doesn't really matter though, because that car won't get used. Straight into a collection.

Hmmm you’re probably right although never seen them as collectible. Amazing drivers car and very practical I’ve covered many hundreds of thousands miles in 944 turbo s and basically learned to drive a turbo engine sports car in one of these. Far easier than a 930. Never looked back have loved turbo torque ever since smile

Would love to know the thought process behind a collector wanting to pay this much and not using it. I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. I buy a car to enjoy driving it so I'm the opposite in approach - I'd even take a higher mileage one if there was one at the time.

Wowsers. Off to prop up my 996 and put it in reverse for a few thousand miles.
