Unusual 'what car' thread

I'm looking for ideas.

Looking for a car that -

1. Is (roughly) £10k or less
2. 4WD - with ground clearance to travel over agricultural land (not climb cliffs!)
3. Tow a teardrop caravan (see below)
4. Fun, so on arriving at destination (e.g. Scotland) caravan can be unhitched and I can go for a drive
5. Can be used as a daily

Any ideas?

Top of the pile imho, or a Legacy STI as the ground clearance is very good for its type.

Do you definitely need 4WD? If not then a Mercedes 211 estate with airmatic and the 5 litre would be very well suited to the job - comfy on a run, sports modes to firm it up, air suspension can be raised pretty high to give good ground clearance.

Nah - 4.5S.

Mine is worth about 50p, and (apart from the petrol it drinks) costs sod all to run - mostly because I neglect it completely. It's surprising fun if you want it to be and would certainly do all the other stuff the OP listed.

In January my leased Q5 was replaced by a purchased 2016 Golf Alltrack 150 bhp TDI. It's surprisingly nice to drive on the twisty roads around here. Much nicer than the Q5

This. Although the Mini Countryman Cooper S is probably a better drive if the tow rating works (<500kg unbraked iirc). It's certainly more characterful, assuming you can get over the naff dash.

Out of interest does it run OK if you really are neglecting it? There are lots for sale, often with long lists of things broken but the owner seems to tolerate!

It hardly ever has anything wrong with it - although it's one of a few cars so only does 1-2k miles a year these days. It did very recently have brake pad warnings - one of the sensor connectors had broken.
Ever since I've owned it (10 years and 30k miles - it's on about 112k now) the reversing sensors have occasionally failed. It's rare but has got more frequent in the last couple of months.
Apart from that - I honestly can't remember the last time it had any problem.
