Both myself and wife don't get full mileage allowances (up to the tax rate from our employers) and have a few other things like charity givings and variable additions to own none company pensions.

We usually get our SA tax returns in pretty pronto into the new tax year once we have all docs / figures.

Last year my SA refund I requested online. Paid 2 days. Wife still awaiting hers. Each time she infrequently manages to get through she gets told it has gone from pending to timed out and reclaim online. HMRC have said they is no reason there end the repayment is on hold.

Both owed money from the SAs we did in April for 22/23 (small change only a few grand each plus a few grand from wifes payment from last year still in her account, with the audit trail showing a litany of "pending/cancelled" payments online).

Anyone got a refund to their bank yet from SA online from 22/23 FY?

Tried calling, I've failed to get through. I got through to be told that if there was an issue over the 7-10 working days it say on the website I'd receive a letter in the post. 20 working days since refund requested (I know I get in quick), did SA8th April as want the money for a building job to save drawdown on the mortgage). Wife has got through to be told 15 days is the target but we're running nearer 70 (for automated refunds?????) and then got cut off.

Anyone else any experience yet this FY is it worth further phone calls or is the automated refund just running slower than Douglas Bader?

Thankyou. Will give it over the weekend for any post re queries and the extra Bank Holidays possibly messing up "working days" then I'll find a quiet corner at work to sit and try and get through to a person if I haven't had my money soon. I know about 5 years ago a change in mobile number held up a repayment - even though they'd sent me my Government Gateway passcodes to that number!

It's a lottery.

There is a similar thread on here from a few weeks ago.

I filed on 10th April and my refund still showing as pending. According to HMRC twiter reply it means it has probably been selected for extra security, what ever that is.

This could delay payment by upto 6 weeks, so I am told to contact them after the 22md May if it still shows as pending.

Filed mine on April 6th online, refund was in my bank 10 days later, just as it has been the previous 15 years. Never had any issue, maybe Im just lucky on that front.....I dont have complex tax affairs, just PAYE with some gift aid, pension contributions, job expenses to claim for each year.

Owned about £5k.

Raised a request online, nothing happened.

Called them, waited 1.15hr for someone to answer the call. This was after weeks of trying but getting hung up on during the call. They checked the account, found that the system didn’t move the payment to ‘pending’. No reason for it to not. After speaking to them, they manually triggered the payment.

Earlier for another refund, they claimed the system blocked it due to a change of address. This payment also required a phone call.

I think their systems are complete garbage, and their department is understaffed, more than anything nefarious. If you dont get a refund, you will probably need to call them.

Submitted 20th April, still pending. Last year had to phone to get it unblocked then paid in days. Looks like I’m going to be doing the same this year.

Yep, I had a thread on this a few weeks ago. SA filed many, many months ago, with 5 figure refund due.

Was finally paid yesterday, with no reason from HMRC.

As I said in the last thread, had the shoe been on the other foot, they'd be kicking my door in to get the money from me.

To update. Waited the standard four weeks, phoned HMRC 22nd May. Informed refund should be paid 5th June or they might want more information. Silence ensues, followed by HMRC shutting their phone lines for the summer. 29th of June manage to get them on the chat service after waiting for about 45mins. Told I should hear by 8th August.
Not holding my breath. frown

I managed to ‘speak’ to someone via the online chat facility when my refund hadn’t been paid over month after I requested it. Apparently my refund request had triggered some sort of fraud flag so the payment wasn’t processed.

They hadn’t bothered to tell me this but were able to validate some details via chat and I received my refund less than a week later.

Used the on line query this afternoon, it said i shouldnt query when my repayment will materialise until 8 weeks after the initial 4 week processing time- so that puts me to the end of august

It’s utterly random.

I filed my SA in early June and got my refund in 6 business days. Last year I had to call twice before I eventually got my refund.

It’s also a poor show from HMRC closing the SA line until September this year.
