I say Alpeen. And then "Mae fe'n fel Davrian Ffranceg" (which is Welsh for "It's like a French Davrian"). Usually does the trick.

Surely if you say Alpine you will confuse people even more than if you say Alpeen as they will think you're driving a head unit from the 90s.

I think saying Alpine is even worse than saying 'Porsh'.

ON a slightly different angle I have had two people ask me if that’s my Porsche , one even said it doesn’t say Porsche on it anywhere,🤦‍♀️
I think owning an Alpine is a bit like when I owned a evo Integrale in the early 90.s ( still have it) people either have no idea what you are driving or they know exactly what it is, it’s that look you get

Having driven Bond Equipes for just over 50 years, I'm used to the 'worrisit mate?' conversation, including the mispronunciation of the car name. As someone noted above, one of the attractions of driving a relatively unknown car is getting the nod from those who know...

Back in the day, that would have been pronounced Sunbeam Alpine (not Alpeen) I think. Funnily enough it was a car my parents coveted so was one of the first I got to recognise.

Do you enjoy having to explain to people what it is, or like most things does that depend on circumstance and situation?

I used the "little Renault" line this weekend and got no further questions from someone buying a Q8, to be fair I showed about the same level of interest in his SUV.
