I have twin girls looking to start driving soon, and rather than get bled dry by paying for 2x lots of driving lessons though it may be a good option to give them some road time behind the wheel myself by getting a smaller car which all seem to be cheap enough to insure for learners. Obviously this has now opened up pandoras but with me now looking at a small car which could double as a Trackday toy too.
So budget is really up to circa 10k and as new and low mileage as possible and was convinced on an abarth but being a tall fella I may look a bit of a dick. Any suggestions welcome as I feel like I've gone car blind looking!

I assume they’ll just be learning in the car and won’t be using it when they have passed?

Are abarths a bit hyperactive? Not good for learner drivers. Renaultsport megane?

As above though, they wont be any good for the girls to drive on their own (insurance).

For something they might able to drive i would consider mazda2 and Swift. They might have a lower profile than more popular options of fiestas, mini, corsa?

Something like the Swift Sport or a non-turbo Mini. Modest power yet decent handling.

Would a Fiesta with the 1.6 engine be a bit too boy racer for insurance companies?

If it's just for them to get seat time in then there's nothing stopping you from getting a proper car for trackdays is there?

So an Astra GTC VXR/CUP Chassis Megane are where I'd be looking.
