Looking in the owners manual for which bulbs to get for my car should they go pop in future but really confused. I know a fair bit about bulbs but uncertain about this.

In the manual it gives the spec for all the halogen type bulbs ( H11, H15, W5W etc ) which I understand.

However in regards to " LED " bulbs it says " These bulbs cannot be replaced because they are an LED type or xenon fusion bulb. For replacement consult an authorised mazda repairer "

If I open the bonnet by the light cluster, I can see two seperate bulbs connected which I assume are Dipped and High ( on either side )

Question is - how do I establish whether my current bulbs are LED or not, and why do I have to take it to Mazda should I want LEDs ?

Attached is a picture of what the lights look like on my car....

I suspect your car came with a range of different headlight bulb variations depending on market and the options chosen.

You may have normal bulbs for dipped and main beam with LEDs for the DRL ring.

If you can see two bulbs with connectors then remove those bulbs and see what type they are, it is probably the only way to be sure.

As above would be my best advice also.

Don't forget wrt LEDs, they tend to be part of the headlight assembly rather than separate "bulbs" in a lot of cases.

Remember not to touch the glass of the bulbs when you take them out.

If any of the headlight bulbs are HiD you might have a shock at the cost of a bulb and decide not to carry a spare.
Have found these as dipped beam in both our Forester and in family Civic, Honda price the HiD bulb at just over £100 if i recall, we found Philips equivalents from about £30 on the usual online sites.

DRLs and side lights could be LED's the costs of which will be eye watering, hopefully someone knows of cottage industries (not cottaging, no sniggering at the back) who have sprung up able to repair these LED units.
