Check the sensor on the front upright, if it was in the rain when it happened it could be water ingress.
If its 3r or later then, it's probs a 50mm M8x1 hall effect 3 wire jobby from Caerbont Automotive (CAI) from memory. Attachment method varied, could be bolted through or tapped into the upright. later ones were bolted through and may be 75mm devices.
Some had a little LED that flashes on the back next to the wire when the wheel is turned and it should be about 1mm gap off the castelated rotor faces.
Gained 8000 miles ?!? maybe the sensor has confused the speedo? but its all pulses so am not sure how this could be the case as it would need to pulse like a million times for 8000 miles. If its only in the wet though I'd just check the wiring into the back of the sensor and the wiring through the bulkhead into the wheel arch?

It'll be the sensor that needs to be replaced. The M400 doesn't suffer with the water ingress problem so whatever they have done has fixed it.
On the 8000 miles you'll need to get the speedo out, but once it's out you should be able to get CAI to reset it for you to the correct milage. It probably "gained" as it may have thought you were doing 400mph

I had a similar problem. It stopped reading sometimes and then read very fast at others.
The dealer fixed it after a week or so, so my mialage was not affected.
I do remember talking about it on another thread with others who had been clocking 5 miles every 1 mile or womething like that.
Call your dealer or the factory.
