Camping lanterns
Discussion
I’m off camping next week at an off-grid, no electric site. Can anyone recommend some LED lanterns to provide general ambient light for outside the tent when we’re eating/drinking/socialising in the eve? I could get the usual Amazon specials but wanted to check if there are better options.
I’ve searched around and plenty of torch recommendations but not so much on lanterns.

These are really good, but expensive.

If you want something a bit more ambent, the Feuerhand oil lamps are really nice.

This might sound daft...
If you have a decent head torch (essential for off grid camping) fill a plastic bottle with water and strap the head torch to it, shining into the water.
Do this with three or four of them. Then when you leave just chuck the bottles in the recycling.
It's dark right now - give it a try!

We got one of these many years ago. Still working great. Torch bit is super bright and lantern provides a really good ambient light for playing cards etc. Rest of the functions a little superfluous for us and a bit annoying cycling through the functions to get the correct light, but.....

Wife bought us some of these to add to the plethora of other camping lights we have, I have found them to be very good, much brighter than some Decathlon jobs we have.

We have a couple of these, charge via usb or with the supplied mini solar panel during the day. Handy remote control so you can switch them off from your bed, or you can even set a countdown timer!
