Lemans in a couple of weeks, I've no chance of fitting a solid coolbox in the viper, but also need good cold beers!

I'm thinking a coolbag, that can fold down in the boot, but is big enough for plenty of beer and meat for a few days.

I can buy the ice and contents when I get there

But also insulated enough to stay cold and icy for a decent amount of time, so not like a supermarket foil bag.

Any suggestions?

Something like this I guess, would this work?

I have one like that - you'll be lucky to keep things cool for longer than a few hours, even with it stuffed with ice blocks. It's fine for the picnic type scenario but no substitute for the solid, more insulated types. Doesn't help you much I'm afraid.

Does the viper have a roof rack hehe

Could you DHL one out there and back?

Just buy a cheap hard one in the supermarket and give it to a random when you leave. The soft ones are crap.

I usually use freezer blocks

When I went last time I used empy icecream tubs. Filled them with water and froze them, they take days to defrost in a cold box.
Also freeze the meat you are taking, will help keep your beers cold and burgers and sausages defrost pretty quickly once you take them out of the cool bag/box

Not sure you'll get away with taking meat into the Eurozone nowadays...
If you're not on scary LeMans mains hook-up, bear in mind that an 'electric coolbox' or an absorbtion type fridge will flatten a car battery overnight as they draw something like 8 amps constantly... and only cool to 20C below ambient.
Compressor type fridge is infinitely better, as reflected in their price, but will still draw 2-3 amps average (they cycle like a domestic fridge), so not even 48hrs on a 100Ah leisure battery.

I have one of these.

If packed with enough beer and freeze some cartons of orange juice for the mornings, it kept my festival beers cool for 2 days.

I would use cans as more efficient on space. We get about 20 to 30 depending on the size. I use the flat thin cool packs as they slide down the sides more easily.

Also recommend freezing small cartons of orange juice as they double up keeping things cool and a refreshing drink in the morning.

They also sell a waterproof liner so you can use ice that won't go everywhere when it melts.

Another tip is the wet towel thing. Get a towel soaking wet and drape it over the box. Evaporation cools what is under the towel, you'll see this done on beer kegs at festivals and such. It makes a surprising difference.

I concur. We have one in the moho garage as backup drinks storage. Very effective.

Same dilemma. Went for the Makita one:

It is a compressor and can run off mains, 12 V, or 18 V LXT batteries, which is handy as I already have a load of them.

Have a bought a couple more, and will pick up a mobile power pack in the 200-500 Wh range this week, with a modest portable solar panel to at least try and keep it topped up.

Should see me through most of the weekend!
