You're using google.com, and it's routing you to what it thinks is your locale?

Use google.co.uk and all will be well.

You should get Google UK by default as long as you access the web from the UK. Have you tried to delete all cookies? One might point to the foreign site.

this is how iit's done:
#Edit #Preferences
#Privacy (on the left bar)
Press the 'Clear' button right of 'Cookies'

scared but happy

I believe it's Google themselves, thinking they know best and "helping" you. We had www.google.com re-directing everybody in the office to www.google.it for a while (they'd incorrectly decided that our IP originated in Italy).

I used to get this - my broadband provider buys connectivity from germany so I have a german IP address.

Consequently google.com used to send me to google.de. And still now when I go to multimap.com it takes me to germany....

i bet if you use multimap.com as well, you get sent to a foreign country.
