Are drivers becoming more impatient?

Are politicians not answering the question, and forgetting they work for us, not vice versa?

Doctors taking the mick.

Plus, some people have realised they can't get into NP&E yet.

I’ve seen some bizarre behaviour on the road since covid. I’m a HGV driving instructor so see a lot of cars needing to get past something with L plates on in such silly dangerous ways.

Odd one from a couple of month ago. Teaching a young lad in a Class 1, some form of man child in a company van blocked the road to illustrate some point, not sure what that was though.
We were going down a narrow road with cars either side (part of the test route) with him coming the other way and he refused to move. Thankfully other cars saw sense and stayed well out of the way.
Had to ask the man child if he could move and I’ve never seen someone snap so quickly over something he caused. Other car drivers got out and told him to stop being such a spanner.
After half an hour and taking pictures of my truck he eventually moved. I took over and headed to a petrol station and got my lad a Starbucks to control his shaken nerves.

Was in the car last weekend, slight road rage from a gentleman in some form of pickup got very nasty. It was all because I was doing the speed limit and not prepared to be bullied into going any faster.
He got next to us at the following junction and I refused to engage, so kept the windows up. He then spat at my car, showered the door, roof and windscreen, quite impressive how much came out of his mouth and was of a mucky texture.

Being serious, I had my family in the car…

1) No more than usual. Always been some arses on the roads
2) Twas ever thus
3) GPs? Absolutely. Addicted to hardly working after their "enforced" downtime and remote working during covid.

1) Not that I've noticed, driving is a stshow in Wales / Cardiff, but most drivers seem happy enough to drive around at 20 paying zero attention.

2) Nothing new there, what is new is the shameless denial when they've been caught doing something wrong, stupid, illegal. I call it the Trump effect.

3) Yeah, I know why, but it doesn't make it any easier to live with. I'm trying to work through a couple of medical problems at the moment, and trying to do everything via the phone when the GP is desperate to get you off the line and on to the next call isn't easy.

I could ask my other half what she thinks about that, but I think I can predict that the answer would be along the lines of that given in Arkell Vs Pressdram.

She was seeing patients face to face all the way through the pandemic. The surgery is operating normally and has been for ages. If we could afford to live on my income alone, she'd hand her notice in tomorrow, it's a st job. Not particularly seeing patients, she enjoys that, all of the other bullst that goes with it.

Answering my own question! I do about 30,000 miles per year, and in the last few years I've seen and felt an increase in aggressive, impatient, bullying, driving. It's mostly in major towns and cities. Maybe it's the new 20mph zones that get people frustrated? but I think the same people who wouldn't say 'boo to a goose' in a pub, feel 'safe' to gesture, blow the horn at anyone who might be doing something they consider is 'wrong', throwing up their hands in fake exasperation, it's all getting like a pantomime. If you are in the wrong traffic lane in Bristol, you may as well call yourself a wker, before someone else does.
Politicians ......Just answer the fking question, or get of the telly and back into your office, do some work.

GP's..... as the queues are getting longer, might it not be an idea to work some overtime? or is that pointless, as if the patient is 'properly' ill, there's no hospital beds!

GPs who want extra hours can already get them, because there aren't enough locums to go round. If you want surgeries to offer more hours of consultations per 1000 patients on the books, you'll have to pay the surgery more per patient. The payment for opening extended hours doesn't cover the cost of providing it - ends up with the GPs doing overtime at half their regular rate. Would you do overtime for 50% pay, particularly if you could earn more freelancing to provide cover elsewhere?

1. General standard of driving has definitely deteriorated. Lots more people are angry at *something* and express that when they're in the car.

2. Politicians have always been sts. Always will be.

3. In any business, when massive increases in expectations coincide with no investment and real terms pay cuts, everyone is going to get unhappy. The GP's I know don't have any time left in which to work overtime; they already do 12 hour days but get paid for 8. It's been made into a truly awful job and I wouldn't do it if you paid me double.

Agreed, I think a lot of people out there are angry and looking for any excuse to project that anger onto someone. Everybody has more stuff than they have ever had in history, yet everyone seems more stressed, anxious and depressed.

I suspect the media and social media have a large part to play in this.

I believe this to be a position held by the majority of drivers for the majority of the existence of the motorcar.
