Looking for a 4 seat convertible, we have another family car, but needs to fit 2 kids in (12ish) comfortably.

Ideally under 4 years old.
£40kish or under
30mpg+

Any suggestions on which is the best of the bunch?

Wild cards accepted (did anyone say land rover !) but has to be convertible please !

A5s are beautiful and the 2.0t is a punchy engine.

However, if you can stretch the budget I would go for S class cab

I see an Evoque cabriolet most mornings.

It is hideous.

It's like the mum driving it cannot cope with having given up her pram, so she bought one with an engine.

If you need room in the back, get the S class.

If you need room in the back, but want to look cool as it's not that roomy in the back but is OK, Maserati. Won't be under 4 years old, but won't be far off. And just look at it. Then look at an Evoque. YKYWT.

BMW F83? M4 or whatever it is?

Depending on what type of driving you do 30mpg should be about right.

M4 if you want something entertaining to drive, E class if you want comfort.

I'm currently driving a VW T-Roc convertible. It's a horrible thing to drive, but is apparently the only convertible VW now make. It will take 4 people as long as they're not too big.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking Bmw or merc would be the only real options.

My wife has an A5 cab, think it's the 40 or 45 TFSi, that I steal at every opportunity when the sun is shining. You're right that the engine is great, and the DSG gearbox works well.
Think it's around 42 mpg, boot is quite shallow with the roof down but you can fit a fair bit of soft luggage in there. It gets a bit blustery without the wind break up, but with it up you can't use the back seats (don't know if this is just for the A5 or all 4 seater convertibles).

Do Munich legends just think of a number and then add 10k on to it? Also why does that car have an extra door lock on it? I'd expect that of a 3k snotter but not at that price.

Doesn’t meet any of the OPs requirements, but that’s what I’d recommend too laugh

Really like the Evoque soft top. Only things stopping me from owning one are money and the fact they appear to have been assembled by blind chimpanzees on a month long acid binge.

I've just given it back and am almost missing it. It has a sort of inexplicable charm, and was actually very comfortable for three hour journeys on bad roads. On the other hand it desperately needs a crash diet and an extra 50bhp or so as it just doesn't launch or cope with hills, and from about 3500 rpm up it makes the worst noise I've ever heard come out of an engine.

I think the point of these is so the owner can slap on the orange fake tan in the morning and have it dry whilst dropping the kiddies off to school. And being an Evoque, thoughtfully parking on the yellow zig-zags right outside of course.
