Cat S 991 - would you consider it?
Discussion
in the market for a 991 -
this has cropped up on the 'trader
couple of flags raised for me (probably wrongly so...)
1) its not flagged anywhen in the description as Cat S
2) only a phone number (no email contact) makes me slighly wary
not one for me - but interested in the broad consensus on Cat A/B/S/N etc. on a more modern porker?
I had a cat D TVR years ago and it was absoluley fine - had a great wedge of dos on the rebuilt body and anyone could see that the guy who re-built it probably did a better job than the factory
If you have pics of the damage and rebuild process, would you?
its a solid £10k + cheaper than comparable
That said - if you had pics of the damage - you'd probably run a mile!! Must take a lot to write off a £100k car....
thoughts?

Pictures of the damage depending on when it was done, will likely come up in the HPI check so no need to worry about that. I’ve personally owned a few CAT cars including a CAT C, S & N - you can get them cheaper because most won’t touch them with a barge pole and resale can be difficult.
The most important consideration for me now is who fixed the car after it was damaged. If it was an OPC, good. An Insurance approved body shop, ok. A body shop with a documented step by step repair, fine. But if the seller claims that it was “only a few panels, easy job” and they did it themselves with a mate, run a mile.
My CAT C & CAT N were fine and sold very quickly with no drama. The CAT S was an absolute nightmare, so bad that I only found the accident damage pictures on Google way after purchase - gulp! That experience taught me a lot.
In the Porsche world, I spoke to a chap that had a CAT S MY10 C2S with 100k mikes on the clock advertised for £26k. The car was based in Scotland and the seller would have taken £25k for it. It sold no problem and relatively quickly.
