Could anyone let me know who the best dealers are for 944T's in and around the London area?

I am looking for someone honest enough to admit the car's faults, knowledgeable, excellent after sales service (with a warrantee perhaps?) AND willing to accept that most people don;t pay the price on the tag!

I have been researching 944 T's for months now, and am finally ready to buy next month. Fingers crossed!

Any suggestions? Is there are an outstanding car known to someone on PH in the classifieds?(anyone but the owner reply please!!! )

Also, here at PH, do people really get the prices they ask for? Seem a bit on the high side, when you see what they go for on ebay.

Thanks guys, I can't wait.

They do primarily stock 911's but deal with all porsches - good dealer honest and is a porsche specialist.
Before anyone asks - no iam not associated with them, nor did i buy my porsche off of them.

Although several dealers are recognised specialists for 911's, I think it's less common for them to specialise in the water-cooled models. I bought my 968 privately, after finding a good-looking one, but importantly had it inspected by an independent Porsche expert prior to purchase. I used Peter Morgan, who is well-known, see www.petermorgan.org.uk/ . The rigorous checks he performed gave me a lot more confidence than some paper warranty, and the money you save is an insurance anyway. The car has been perfect since, BTW.

I'm in the US so I can't help a fellow 944 freak in the UK, other than to suggest an interesting site that has a lot of cool information and reference info to ya
www.network54.com/Forum/426130

good luck with the search, the wasserpumpers are some of the best handling cars on the planet, and if you don't like the way Porsche sold them, you have your choice of lots of aftermarket racing stuff like coilovers.

Many thanks everyone.

One more question : where can I get some newer alloys? The original ones are elegant, but strike me as a little dated.

How much should I pay for another newer set? Would boxster alloys fit?

Any suggestions?

You fairly often see 944s with Cup alloys, so they can be fitted. There is a red turbo with cups (or similar looking anyway) on PH classifieds right now.

Personally I think the Design 90 wheels, as on the S2, look great. They really suit the 944, though they don't look as good on the 964 which also had them.

My (London) S2 with Design 90s is also on the classifieds, but if you're set on a turbo, there seem to be a few around - though none in London ...

I would plan on a bit of travelling if you want to find a good one. There are some dogs out there. I saw some extraordinary things when I was looking for mine ...

Good luck.

p.s. i'm selling my s2 so if you decide against a turbo then let me know.

There are some cars about that do seem daftly overpriced, however if you buy a cheaper car needing work it can soon add up to a pretty tidy sum unless you are handy with the spanners.

A friend of mine is selling his 944T. It's in very good nick, and he's looked after it very well. He bought it for his wife, who liked the idea of having a Porsche. She decided that the reality wasn't quite what she had expected and it's not as easy to drive as a hatchback, so it's been his second car for a while and now he's selling it.

He spent a fair bit on the car soon after he bought it, as he wanted it to all be 100% for his wife. The belts were replaced a few thousand miles ago, and everything works.

It's in the classifieds here:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/46530.htm

Hope this helps

Hi AdvocatusDiaboli

Just spotted your post, ref the wheels, try www.Design911.co.uk - I bought a set of refurbished (genuine) wheels from them (via ebay) for £400 plus delivery (circa £25). The wheels I opted for were Sport Classicline, which are similar to the ones fitted to my next door neighbours 996. They have smartened up the look of the car no end (check my profile for a pic, or email me for a better pic..). Just to say also, the wheels were £100 cheaper via their advert on ebay than direct off their website.
Good luck with the 944 Turbo search, fabulous cars !

Cheers - Swill

Absolutely correct, I saw about 15-18 before I stumbled on my 944 turbo.

Loads of nice cars out there but also but dodgy repairs or history from dealers and Joe Public too.

Dont think a better car is available from a dealer (believe me I know) and you WILL pay a premium at a dealer that could be spent on an approved Porsche check of a private car.

Note: History isnt everything. Lots of owners have them serviced at Porsche specialists. OPC are expensive and not necessarily any better.

If it has an extensive history you will tell more about the car by its recent history ie: repair and parts bills over and above the regular servicing.

If it appears to have only been serviced and nothing seems to have been going wrong (apparently) on a 15+ year old high performance car then walk away. Its been run on a budget and you could get burnt.

If the owner is enthusiastic he/she will enthuse about the car and point out all the issues etc and you should ask, if you get the chance, to check out the service people he/she used and you will get an idea about the car.

Hi,

Have seen this car:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/46530.htm

Very good example. Only item not working was the clock. Drove nicely and was very tidy etc.

Andrew
