Looking at changing my car in the coming weeks. Currently drive an FK2 Type R but really wanting to go back to an automatic.

Max budget of 20k
Needs to be usable as a family car every now n then, I have two kids. A 3 year old and a 1 year old.
Automatic
Petrol
Nothing older than around a 2010

So far my thoughts are so far in no particular order. E92 M3. Jaguar XE or XF with the supercharged V6. MK7 Golf R. Leon Cupra Estate. Alfa Giulia Veloce.

Anyone got thoughts on the above or any other suggestions?

Why not the XFR?

If interested in supercharged cars you can get a low mileage 2015 supercharged S5 in budget, or a higher mileage supercharged 2015 S4 Avant (good for family and fun). The latter has the CREC engine with added MPI so no valve carbon problems.

If considering the XF 3.0 s/c, it's worth noting that it's essentially the same engine as the 5.0 V8 s/c, so make sure the chain and tensioner issues have been sorted with the latest revised parts and carefully research the other issues. Lovely cars to drive though.

Thanks for the inputs folks!

Definitely hadn't considered the C63. Are they generally known for being better than an M3 do you know?

I am put off an XFR as it would be the older shape. The XF/XE I am considering would be of the newer shape.

S5/S4 Avant are 2 cars I have had been debating, I am just really put off by the dated interior. The infotainment system was dated when they were new in 2015! It might seem petty but when you compare to its rivals it really is falling behind.

Yeah I have been keeping an eye on a couple of R estates

BMW 3 or 5 series 40i estate? Or could go for a 440i Gran Coupe too. It's a hatchback and I like my 428i very much.

That's a shame about the XFR as it's an epic engine. The S4 B8 was new in late 2008, it was nearing the end of production by 2015/16 so I guess to be expected that it would be feeling a little dated. Also a shame because it's an excellent engine, although I'm sure the C63 would more than satisfy lol

Levus IS-F these are a car that'll get under your skin & are truly special, if you're not a fan of the infotainment this can be updated:

I'm bias but the C63 is the pick followed by the IS-F with the E400 3rd:

I had a Leon Cupra ST for 3 years. It doesn't have the chassis dynamics of the Type R, or of some of the others mentioned, but it does a great job of doing the fast family wagon stuff well while being relatively cheap to run.
