canon IXUS 700 any good ?
Discussion
I had a good mess about with a number of compact digital's after my Pentax Optio S4i basically disintegrated in my hands (extremely poor build quality).
To cut to the short, in the end I plumped for a Casio Casio EX-Z750 (test here: www.kenrockwell.com/casio/exz750.htm ).
It's a fantastic little camera, but has one flaw - a number of them suffer lens problems. I'm now on my 3rd but still confident I chose the right camera
My girlfriend has the Ixus 50 which, if I'm honest, I'm not overly impressed with. We took a trip up to Scotland last week and were using both cameras in exactly the same positions. Nine times out of ten the Casio's pictures came out better and needed less processing afterwards.
So, if you hit lucky and can get hold of a Casio EX-Z750 without the dreaded lens problem then I think you're heading along the right path
(editted due to the link incorporating the bracket and therefore no worky...)

Ive a 700 ixus too, fantastic camera althiugh the colours can be a bit over saturated (colourful) which in the UK isnt a bad think
Highly recommended..........
See my FOS pics here and if you read below the pics you will see the ones take by the ixus, not many and drastically shrunk down too

cheers for the replies but got talked into a Sony (W7S) by a IXUS 500 friend, and have just this minute ordered one.
Although it costs slightly more than the Canon, they on paper both have similar performance, but the Sony has a bigger screen and the advantage of running on AA batterys

I bought an Ixus 500 and was a bit dissapointed.
The camera is lovely but the results were a bit soft.
I did a few tripod tests at the different resolutions and found that the image was no sharper at 5mp than 3mp. Did I have a dud with a dodgy lens?
The vendor agreed and replaced the camera, but the replacement was no better.
The lens appeared to be not good enough to resolve the additional pixel count. I would expect it from lesser makes but not Canon.
Vendor had to agree, so I got my money back and got one of the last Ixus 2's 3.2 mp and pocketed the differance.
Pixel count isn't everything
PS just bought a D70 and mated to my old IFED lenses is absolutly staggering.
