Mortgage advice
Discussion
Not for me but
My wife's cousin's husband (!) is really struggling to get a mortgage.
He is former special forces and now works abroad as a paramedic (with a doctorate) and isn't a UK tax payer.
Recently they applied for a mortgage through an advisor only for it to be rejected because his company works in Iraq in oil and its not 'ethical' for them to lend money to people 'in the oil business'
So he is looking for a specialist mortgage advisor who can help
His LTV should be about 10-20% on a £400k-500k house but can't find anyone who is interested, even at higher rates.
Can anyone advise a broker to talk to ?

The big issue here is he is not based in the UK, that alone is enough to put most lenders off. I was in a similar situation about 7 years ago when I worked in Australia and ended up contacting a random broker I found via Google. I managed to get a Sharia mortgage (that is a whole adventure in itself.....) via Al Rayan Bank with a 1% arrangement fee and a 1% fee to the broker. The 1% fee to the broker was annoying as I am sure I could have organised it all myself.
Anyway, it won't be cheap expect to also be hit with higher interest rates if you can find anyone to lend you the money.
Even when I got back to the UK it wasn't that easy as most lenders want you to be based in the UK for 3 years as well.

An expat mate of mine bought via a UK limited company, with a mortgage.Anyway, it won't be cheap expect to also be hit with higher interest rates if you can find anyone to lend you the money.

A few years ago now.
Ours was pretty straightforward really but at the moment things are hectic and getting anywhere direct was difficult.
Contacted Sarnie and have zero regrets, he kept on top of it all and each time the lender dropped rates between acceptance and finalisation he was on it straight off - even when only 0.01% change, I was embarrassed asking!!
Anyway, thoroughly recommend!
