Rolex 16600 repair/service?
Discussion
After having a similar issue and having it done at RSC... I would recommend against it. I 'had to' have the hands changed, etc. as part of the service and a new clasp and, and, and... a £1700 or so bill.
If you want it kept all original, definitely go independent. Apologies no local recommendations for you but could always send away, insured, to a reputable watchsmith.

I used William Rice when I had mine done. Provided a very good service. It was a few years ago now though

Another recommendation for Bill Rice here. He repaired a vintage Submariner for me a few years ago, Rolex wanted to replace pretty much everything, including the case itself. http://williamricewatches.com/
Posted my wife's Rolex out to Watchdoctors https://watchdoctors.co.uk/watch-repair/rolex-watc... . Assessment the day it arrived, serviced, polished to the level I wanted and returned in just over a week.
Used RSC in the past. Had a problem with every watch that went to them, plus their attempts to regulate them at the first attempt was way off the mark. Never again.
The only time I'd put a Rolex to RSC is where I've lost/not got the certificate and a warrantied service with the green card gives some credibilty come time to sell.

I wont promote my own business as I don't want to abuse my membership of the site without paying any money and I don't need to chase business! We carry watches but what ever you do Never send a high end watch through the overnight couriers or the post! If it gets lost your insurance will pay £1 a kilo and you dont want that
Before anybody says yeh but and I have this insurance and that agreement. It is simple they wont pay out for your watch No matter what .
If your paying 1700 for your 6K watch to be repaired then there is no harm in paying a little bit more for the transportation of your time piece to be 100% secure
I'm working with Alex at https://ajhsl.co.uk
The guy is second none and deals with Rolex models everyday plus has the latest oiling specs which have change from last few years
Plus your get a 2 year warranty.
Being based in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter he gets everything for vintage to the latest models and offers great prices

I hear what you're saying but on the balance of probabilities it is a risk I am prepared to take as the value of the watch is the price I paid at the point of purchase. I don't look at cars/watches etc as investments. I've written the money off when I've bought them and their loss etc. other than pissing me off won't affect my quality of life. Others will take a different view and choose to physically hand over a watch to the servicing agent. We are all different. Before anybody says yeh but and I have this insurance and that agreement. Thanks for all the suggestions have looking into them,
Decided to go with Rolex service as only £100 more then independent, so went to local AD to drop it off had to make an appointment? Sales assistant checked serial number and advised me of chips to crysal edges and needs to be replaced asked if these chips would effect the water seal of watch or just visual not noticeable to naked eye only under a loop, he said Rolex will replace as a matter off course and would need a new crown as well total of £960 asked them to send in for Rolex to give me an estimate ( this watch has been serviced before at Rolex st james place at which time the men edge trips to crystal and gave me the option of new crystal not taken) state Rolex wont give you estimate because if you turn it down theyve already put work into it for no payment !
Asked for no polish ! Why won't want a polish sir ? Showed him my wifes 1997 polar explorer which in my opinion the clasp has been over polished the embossed crown is disappearing ( mentioned to wife at time of purchase but do they listen?) Sales assistant passed me his air king and said thats being serviced next year and polished ? Has it been polished before ? No not sure of your point !
After all this i walked.
Phoned St James place if i drop a watch in for a service will give me an estimate before i give the go ahead ? Of course sir.
So i had a few days in london and dropped it off asked if they could add a note for a light polish only not to remove deep dings and mentioned about emboss crown on clasp yes sir we are careful not to lose that.
So a week later estimate comes through reads like watch has had hard life ,chip here ,ding here there, scratches etc
Estimate £700 which is just service price no mandatory crystal etc.So rang up to give go ahead and to reinforce the light polish ( have given watch to my son on his wedding day so would like looking well probably the last polish).
2 weeks later watch ready for collection ,son works in london so will be collecting wednesday. I no doubt it will look good.
Disappointed with up selling at AD,nice sakesman but not a service technician .
Dont think ill be getting the" call "anytime soon

They rang me and said the crystal needed replacing as it was damaged on “ the inside “ , since I bought it new from them and it had never been serviced I requested the crystal be replaced under warranty as it was clearly damaged from new.
Work that one out.

I had the IDENTICAL experience with exactly the same requests last summer except they took 5 weeks!
I was very happy with St James’ service all round!
I got an estimate for my late fathers Datejust from RSC, I dropped it off in person, think it was about £620 for service and needed crown, crystal and a new bracelet and came to about £2800 in total. I said no thanks.
Sent it to Watchguy.co.uk. full service £260 and its been running great ever since.

My sister wants to get my dads other Rolex Datejust serviced, shes not keen on sending it away to Watchguy like I did. So I think I'll suggest she pops it down to Alex. The guy is second none and deals with Rolex models everyday plus has the latest oiling specs which have change from last few years

You wonder what Rolex do with the watch - take it to a Spa in Geneva then douse it in Tuscan olive oil?Sent it to Watchguy.co.uk. full service £260 and its been running great ever since.
