Tuscans at Castle Combe - Monday

Hi all

There are 7 or 8 Tuscans racing at Combe tomorrow, in case any of you want to come along.

Qualifying starts at 9am and races at 1pm. In addition to the Tuscans/GTs are 2 Ferrari Challenge races, a classic Ferrari race, Alfas and Fiats (get the theme yet) - plus saloon cars an Formula Ford. Weather forecast is scorchio:D!!

A great day out and the Tuscans looked quite spectaular out there.

Huge was a tad unlucky off the line avoiding an errant bike engined gt thingy, but that ended up making a good race long fight with huge and Andy..


I must say a big thanks to Team Andy Holden racing for putting up with me and Isobel. I know how to keep her happy now all you need is a plate of strawberries

That was Ginger. (I though the two handed wave was after the race).

Actually that was me A one handed wave at Tower during the race and a two handed one on the cooling down lap

Its still early days, so I'm working up to the two handed wave during the race. It would be helpful if the TVR flag wavers were on a straight bit - its less expensive when the wave goes Pete Tong



On a more serious note - it was great to see support for the TVRs. With the news that LNT will not race TVRs next year, that leaves Peninsular and the Tuscans as the last racing TVR's to have been associated with the factory still out there competing - plus, of course, the TVRCC boys. It does mean a lot to see the TVR flags waving when you are trying to despatch some pesky Prosport. And I didn't see any Radical flags flying anywhere

I had an enjoyable race after a very frustrating qualifying. My session was ended with a Radical spinning on the exit to Camp with me on his tail. Having come to a complete halt to avoid hitting him as he slewed out of the spin, the engine died and wouldn't restart. I was sat in the car with no power, on the racing line watching in the mirrors as everyone came flying round - God knows how Tim Hood didn't hit me.

So an appalling qualifying time - 26th on the grid - when I would have expected to have managed something like 8th or 9th.

Poor Hugh Marshall got punted off at the start having qualified really well. He carved his way through the traffic easily, as did I - and we were then both held up by Dave Caroline (yes, Lee's dad, and first time out in a Tuscan doing very well indeed) and a Prosport having a battle - which proved very difficult to get past. Dave ran wide at Bobbies and that then made it easy to pick off the Prosport. Hugh and I then had a good battle.

So all in all a good day. The weather was fab, Darren and Tim frightened the fastest of the Radicals, and we all came home in one piece

Andy - from a spectator's point of view, you contributed well to an exciting race, carving through the pack from the back of the grid, lights blazing. Well done. The car looks superb by the way - is it a recent respray or just very carefully looked after ?

Thanks Richard, I enjoyed it.

I did a lot of work on the car pre season and then had it resprayed by Ewelme Coachworks. They did a superb job and I make no apologies for giving them a shameless plug.

I'm also rather anal about how I look after it!
