Just curious having not been before, what's the phone signal / voice connection and data like in and around the circuit and town?

Much like any large gathering in the UK ie terrible?

Yes on a busy year it's terrible. Very patchy limited data and same for traditional voice calls and SMS.

In our group we have also noticed your luck depends on who your UK contract is with which tends to influence who you land up roaming with.

The ACO are advertising free WiFi this year - who knows where it will be. (Apart from Arnage Aire d'Acueille of course wink )

And for sure come race day I imagine streaming Radio Le Mans could be tricky!

It's mostly decent, I've always been able to look up the live timing whenever needed, or send texts/whatsapps to my dreadful mates.

Not tried streaming audio or video.

I hear that the recent update to the WEC/LM app is terrible and barely works with a full wifi signal, so we shall see what it is like under 4G/5G.

Generally other than the first and last laps you're fine.

With 75% of people taking pictures/video of the start which they then try to send to friends while their phones automatically try to back them up to the cloud, all at the same time there's a huge spike in demand and you can struggle to get any data on your phone. By lap 3 everything's calmed down and general data access is fine.

Last year it was mostly ok.
I’m no expert but it looked like temporary masts had been put up to help with the demand, recall a big one around Garage Vert area.

I've always found it pretty poor for data. The ACO have offered free wifi in the past (I seem to recall) but it's been chocolate fireguard stuff with so many people trying to use it. And they always decide to update the app just as you arrive at the circuit, so updating is nigh on impossible until you get back to some decent wifi. I rarely bother trying to stream anything while I'm at the circuit. I can look at timing on the app and sent whatsapps to our group members, but that's about all I try to do.

Made me realise I haven't been to Glastonbury or similar since before mobile phones became a thing! Crikey I feel old now frown

Hadn't occurred to me that the local cell towers wouldn't be able to cope with all the extra demand. Thanks for the heads up. We might have to go back to the old days and interact with the people around us rather than back home biggrin

It's terrible. No phone signal. When there is, it's too noisy to hear anyone talk. That's my excuse for not calling home while I'm there anyway wink

Have a feeling there might be separate free Wifi in the museum too?

If so another reason to visit - the other one being it has by far the nicest toilets at the circuit! smile

One other good reason for visiting the museum is that you can buy a meal deal from the vending machines in the cafe for about 4€

Hmmm. When I went last year the vending machines seemed to have disappeared.... The cafe was empty, i.e. no cafe.

Why would you stream RLM? Take a radio.

Agree completely! Heaven forbid talking to people face to face, how odd wink

I'll tell the missus there's no signal.
