Tracking History - Issued Watches.

Does anyone know of resources available for tracking the history and details of a watch or pocket watch that was issued by British forces (namely RAF) from 1930’s?

Would you be able to determine the manufacturer/issue dates/location from the stamped number?

There was a very good article by Cole Pennington last week entitled Bringing WW2 watches back home. Features buying issued watches with engraved backs, and trying to locate the owners family to give them back to them.
May not help you, but very interesting and moving to read.
