V8 Vantage GEAR POS DISP NOT AVAIL Error Message
Discussion
My 2008 V8V Sportshift just began to display the error message GEAR POS DISP NOT AVAIL following a rainy outing (not sure if rain is a factor).
Shortly after starting the car, this error message pops up followed by a brake error message, followed by the GEAR POS error a second time, then the gauges just die--needles drop and all illumination goes out.
I also noticed most, but not all, of the radio display vanishes and the car won't respond to a key fob lock press after being turned off.
The issue is intermittent as I can sometimes drive a few hours without seeing the problem, with everything--including the gauge pod--operating just fine.
My car battery was only 2.5 years old but I just replaced it with a new one today to rule that out. It made no difference as the error returned immediately after starting the V8V post-battery install.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like your body control module is on its way out.
Take it to a decent indie for diagnosis and likely replacement. If it is this module, you will also soon lose the ability to open the fuel cap, then the boot and the doors, you may not be able to adjust seats, lock doors or open a window. All displays and gauges may also stop working, though strangely the radio will continue to work and also the phone interface. Make sure you keep fuel tank full until it’s fixed, as you won’t know how much fuel you have and will find it difficult to fill (you then have to force your way into boot from inside to open the filler cap).
The same thing happened to mine, IIRC it was roughly £500 plus labour to source, fit and recode a new body module (BR) - note there may be a lead time. You will need the code cards for the keys, if you don’t have them, you will also need a new set of keys, which will add a grand to the cost.
The good news? - well, when mine went and gradually shut down everything above, the engine would still start and run…
