Need to get back 2 off but the remover is damaged and won't work

Got a local guy wanting £90 to do it

Do online kits work or are they a waste of money?

Would Aa/RAC cover it?

Thanks

I am probably missing something, but
If the tool is damaged, then just get another tool... you will need one anyway.

Plan is to just remove the locking nuts and replace with standard

Don't think she trusts herself to not lose it

Can they be gripped on the outside? If so then Halfords sell a removal kit with a reverse thread in it. You wind those on in a counter-clockwise direction and they tighten onto the nut as you turn them. Eventually the wheel nut will start to losen and come out. Sometimes the tool is reusable but the one I have has an old locking wheel nut stuck in it.

I've used these and an impact gun to remove wheel nuts with great success.

Had a look at the Halfords ones but the reviews were shocking

1 fella ended up getting the Halfords ones stuck on the wheels and had to go to a garage to get both old and halfords ones removed

I had the same problem.

Went to local tyre place, he said he’d try, if I accepted that he would trash the nuts.
I went to euro car parts & bought 4 new studs for under £10.

I saw the tyre guy, he trashed the wheel nuts with a bolster then hammered the locking wheelnut tool on. Removed it in seconds.

The guy in the office asked him how long it took, he said 30 secs.

He said it was free, I gave them £20 for a beer.

Less than £35 for a tool i’d never use again!

They only work in the right circumstances. For other cases you'd have to use different tools. If he got the locking wheel nut remover stuck in the hole it was because the hole was too small for the tool to fit into and he kept tightening it until it was stuck. I've used the Halfords ones successfully but wouldn't recommend them if they aren't going to fit nicely and do the job cleanly. Do a self assessment of the situation to see if they will work before committing to it and getting something stuck where it shouldn't be.

Any decent tyre bay will be able to remove the locking nuts in a few minutes.
Then fit standard wheel nuts/bolts.
Locking nuts are a waste of time and cause more grief than all the other car problems put together.

Thanks all

Called round a few places, ats, Halford and a couple of independents

None can do Citroën due to the type of nut, all other makes no problem

Looks like it will have to the specialist locking wheel nut guy

The other option would be to buy a replacement locking wheel nut key from the dealer. They should be able to provide the correct key for your car.

I don’t understand ? All tyre bays have this problem every day. The big busy ones will have the removal kits.
Particularly Citroen/Peugeot as they are notorious, made of chocolate.

That's why I was interested to see a pic of it... in case it's a type I've not seen before...

Update....

Went to Citroën garage this morning with broken locking wheel nut bit

Replacement is £117 and has to be ordered, 10 day wait

Full set of 4 locking nuts plus removing bit.....less than 50 quid!

The guys at the garage were understanding but this is ridiculous

I had a quick look and there's plenty of reviews from incompetent plebs trying to remove locking wheel nuts with a spinning collar rather than chiselling it off first.

That's a mad price for a locking wheel nut key. I used to pay about £25 when getting them for my BMW and MINI owning customers.

£110+ is about right for a PSA key. They are essentially infinite combinations. This is why a new set is cheaper than ordering a key to be cut to your vin number. A new set is just a random combo. I used to work in Peugeot parts. I always recommended customers buy 4 plain nuts and have their garage of choice manually remove the old lockers (due to our labour rate it would cost more than a new key)

They are removable, but you have to smash the outer part off and then use your standard grippy removal socket. It takes some practice but is fairly easily done.

Other posters saying £25 - Yes for some brands. I also worked at Nissan and theirs were around £25 but they have limited combinations and a master set for each type with about 15 keys in each.
